Honest and Straightforward Advice šŸ’µ

The Lowdown

Hall of Fame šŸ¦…

When longtime North Fork business owner and community leader Paul Romanelli was inducted into the Scouting America Long Island Eagle Scout Hall of Fame last month, the honor felt especially meaningful for someone whose life has been defined by service.

Many know Romanelli as the owner of Suffolk Security Systems, a champion of local nonprofits, and one of the driving forces behind the Cutchogue St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

But his story starts much earlier, spending summers in Laurel, scouting at Bailie Beach, and building an Eagle Scout project that still welcomes visitors into Farmingdale today.

Over the decades, Romanelli has become one of the North Fork’s most recognizable civic leaders, serving on countless boards, supporting local causes, and helping raise funds throughout the East End.

Along the way, he built Suffolk Security into one of the region’s leading life safety companies while maintaining a reputation for being just as invested in people as he is in business.

Picking Up Your Parking Tab šŸš—

One Greenport restaurant has found its own way to push back against the village’s new paid parking program.

Front Street Station is now taking $3.50 off customers’ checks, enough to cover the first hour of parking, for anyone who shows proof they paid a meter. Owners Sharon and Dave Sailor say it’s their way of helping customers and encouraging people to keep visiting downtown despite frustration over the expanded parking rules.

Their goal isn't just to complain about the changes, it's to find a practical way to keep people coming into town. ($)

The Waterman’s Archive 🌊

Paul Brooke Jr. the longtime captain, commercial shell fisherman, free diver, and artist is bringing his perspective to Hotel Moraine with The Waterman’s Archive, a new exhibition opening July 11.

The collection draws directly from Brooke’s life on the water, blending fine art photography, antique nautical charts, squid ink, and life sized cyanotypes made using actual sea life and sunlight.

The exhibition features three series: Blue Harvest, Nature’s Palimpsest, and Fine Art Photography, each exploring a different way of preserving moments that most people never get to see.

Animal of The Week

Meet Skye šŸ¾

Meet Skye, a 1.5 year old German Shepherd with a big heart, a bright mind, and just the right amount of goofball charm. This girl is happiest when she’s close to her humans, soaking up affection, and being part of the action.

True to her shepherd roots, Skye is smart, loyal, driven, and deeply devoted. She loves being outdoors, has made wonderful progress with other dogs, and now enjoys dog playgroups thanks to months of patience, structure, and training. She’ll do best with an experienced German Shepherd owner and a confident handler who understands how to give her the consistency and guidance she needs to keep thriving.

To help Skye and her future family start off on the right foot, adopters will complete one training session at the shelter and one in-home session after adoption. It’s all part of making sure this special girl has the smooth, successful transition she deserves.

Skye is ready to be someone’s hiking buddy, loyal sidekick, and all in best friend.

17 Year Anniversary šŸ»

Greenport Harbor Brewing Co. is taking its anniversary celebration back to the place where it all began.

On Sunday, July 12, the brewery will mark 17 years with a celebration at its original Carpenter Street location in Greenport. The day will feature an anniversary beer release, live music from Unplugged, and artwork by East End artist Scott Bluedorn.

For longtime fans, it’s a chance to raise a glass at the original brewery that helped make GHBC a local staple. For everyone else, it’s a solid Sunday excuse to stop by, hear some music, check out local art, and celebrate a North Fork favorite.
