Sail Into Something Memorable ā›µļø

Some plans just feel a little more cinematic than others.

Like climbing aboard a luxury sailing ketch in Greenport Harbor, uncorking a bottle from your favorite North Fork vineyard, and spending the next few hours gliding past waterfront homes, quiet coves, and open Bay views while the rest of the world slows down for a minute.

That’s the SailNoFo experience.

Operating out of historic Greenport Harbor, SailNoFo offers private sailing adventures ranging from afternoon cruises to peaceful sunset sails, all led by a trained and licensed crew that make the entire experience feel both elevated and completely laid back.

There’s locally sourced light fare, plenty of room to unwind, and yes, the kind of sunset views that make everyone suddenly stop talking for a second.

And if you’ve ever wanted to do more than just sit back with a drink in hand, SailNoFo also offers hands-on sailing instruction for those looking to sharpen their skills beyond the Bay.

For more information or to book a cruise, visit SailNoFo.com or call 631.906.8937.

Walk4Valor šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø

Just weeks after returning from his fourth overseas deployment, Marine veteran and New York Army National Guard Lt. Col. Charles Sanders was back on the North Fork Sunday morning leading Walk4Valor, a 22 mile trek honoring fallen service members and raising awareness about veteran suicide.

Starting in Southold and finishing nearly eight hours later, the group of veterans, students, Junior ROTC members, firefighters and community volunteers made stops at local firehouses, American Legion posts, Sterling Cemetery, Goldsmith’s Boat Shop and even Greenport’s miniature railroad along the way.

While the walk is centered around the sobering statistic that roughly 22 veterans, active duty service members and family members die by suicide each day, much of the day focused on lessons about resilience, community and perseverance.

Sanders spoke candidly with younger participants about overcoming life's obstacles and leaning on others during difficult times.

Bourbon & Barbecue 🄃

A sold out bourbon dinner at Tucker’s Taproom has turned into a new monthly tradition.

After teaming up for a barbecue and bourbon night that filled up almost immediately, Tucker’s owner Chris Hujber and Vintage Spirits general manager Brian Dickson are opening their whiskey tastings to the public on the last Thursday of every month.

The idea grew out of Dickson’s East End Spirits Society, a group of about 80 whiskey enthusiasts who gather to sample and discuss special bottles.

The next tasting shines a spotlight on Kentucky favorite Michter’s, with a distillery representative on hand to guide guests through pours of Sour Mash, Small Batch Bourbon, Straight Rye and Unblended American Whiskey.

High Flying Dogs šŸ•

The Greenport Polo Grounds turned into a canine launch pad this weekend as the North Fork Dog Dock Diving Weekend returned for its 10th year, and its second year at the Polo Grounds.

Hundreds gathered under blue skies to watch dogs sprint down the dock and soar through the air, but the weekend was about more than impressive jumps and splashy landings.

Hosted by Harbor Pet owner Kim Loper alongside Sarah Phillips and Rena Wilhelm, the event has evolved into one of Greenport’s signature summer traditions, combining four legged competition with community fundraising.

This year, organizers donated to the Greenport Skate Park Inc. and continued their support of the Greenport Fire Department.

Juneteenth Celebration šŸ¤

Greenport’s Juneteenth celebration is getting bigger this year, with two days of events centered around the theme, ā€œThe Walk Toward Freedom Continues.ā€

Now in its third year, the community wide celebration returns June 19 and 20 with a schedule that includes a fundraising dinner, a theatrical performance, a village parade, live music, Afro-Brazilian drumming, gospel singing, and the unveiling of a community quilt project created by local residents and students.

The festivities begin Friday evening with a Juneteenth dinner at Flavor Fork, followed by Pages from the Diary of an Ex-Slave at the North Fork Arts Center, an oratorio-style production that follows the journey of a young enslaved woman seeking freedom.

Saturday’s celebration starts at Clinton Memorial AME Zion Church before participants walk together through the village to Mitchell Park for an afternoon of music, dance, spoken word, and cultural performances.

Tide Hustle šŸŽ£

If the faces behind Greenport’s newest fishing charter look familiar, there’s a good reason.

Former Peconic Star captains Rachel Johnson and Paul Ripperger have launched Tide Hustle, a new fishing charter operating out of Brick Cove Marina with a simple goal: help more people get on fish.

The pair spent years running trips together aboard the Peconic Star before deciding to chart their own course. After months of searching, they landed a custom built 41 foot walk around boat designed to give anglers plenty of room to move around instead of being crowded at the stern.

Tide Hustle can carry up to 15 passengers and features a fully enclosed cabin, upgraded electronics, new rods and reels, and more than 100 feet of rail space. ($)
