Dump Drama 🚛

Patriot Recycling has been ordered to haul away 3,000 cubic yards of mystery material from a former Calverton nursery after Riverhead Town hit them with not one, but two stop-work orders. Neighbors say the “yard waste” smelled way too funky to be leaves and clippings.

Under a settlement, the piles have to be gone by early October. But when word got out that some of the debris was headed to an industrial site in Cutchogue, Southold officials stepped in fast. Supervisor Al Krupski asked the Suffolk County Department of Health to test the material for pesticides, metals, and other contaminants before it crossed town lines.

If the waste turns out to be tainted, Patriot could be on the hook for cleanup costs and fines.

A Different Kind of Drip 💧

There’s a new clinic in Cutchogue that’s all about slowing down, listening, and actually caring. Heavenly Hydration, founded by longtime nurse Debra Moreno, offers personalized IV vitamin therapy and integrative health services.

Every treatment starts with lab testing and a one-on-one consult, and the goal isn’t a “quick fix” but long-term healing.

Staffed by nurses, PAs, and a supervising doctor, the clinic helps with everything from immunity and energy to chronic conditions.

The Pearl in the Oyster 🎻

This Saturday, the North Fork Arts Center turns into a time machine. The Long Island Baroque Ensemble is bringing The Pearl in the Oyster to Greenport.

Under mezzo-soprano Margo Andrea, the group ditches modern instruments for centuries-old violins, gut strings, and a painted harpsichord lid that looks as good as it sounds.

Andrea will step into the spotlight with Monteverdi and Handel arias that swing from heartbreak to triumph. The rest of the lineup? Basically the “Top 40” of 1700, Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, Pachelbel. Call it the Taylor Swift playlist of the Baroque.

And here’s the kicker: the ensemble just scored a National Endowment for the Arts grant for a new project tied to America’s 250th birthday, proving Baroque is alive, well, and about to make some serious history.

Memory Care 🧠

At Peconic Landing’s Harbor South memory care unit, the daily routine now includes a surprising new activity: math worksheets and reading out loud. It’s all part of SAIDO Learning, a Japanese program that uses simple exercises to keep the brain firing, and it’s showing big results.

Six months in, residents are not only holding steady but in some cases actually improving on cognitive tests. Staff say they’re also seeing something you can’t measure on a chart: more smiles, more conversations, and more confidence.

Peconic Landing is the first community in New York State to try it, and they’re already dreaming bigger: bringing SAIDO into independent living, senior centers, and even home care.
