The Market Says Goodbye 👋
After 38 years on Front Street, The Market is closing its doors on Saturday, Jan. 31.
Owner Shelley Scoggin says the decision came down to timing, a mix of wanting more time with her grandchildren, a return to her art, and a planned successor who ultimately stepped away.
From its early days in Southold to its long run in Greenport, The Market weathered recessions, moves, and changing retail trends, all while staying rooted in community. Regulars didn’t just come for clean products and good food, they came for connection. ($)

Show Tunes 🎶
This Friday night, the Floyd Memorial Library is swapping whispers for show tunes.
What’s usually a quiet stop on Front Street will turn into something closer to a Greenwich Village piano bar, as the library hosts a “Playbill Through the Years” sing along inspired by its current exhibition of historic Broadway programs.
The collection, on loan from the Northport–East Northport Public Library, spans generations of theater history, from South Pacific to The Book of Mormon. Rather than let it fade out quietly, curator Sally Grant decided to give it a proper send off, one with music, voices, and a little joyful chaos.
The vibe is informal and welcoming. A pianist, a few singers to get things started, lyric sheets for anyone who wants them, and plenty of room for requests.
The evening also puts the spotlight on local theater. Students from the Greenport High School Drama Club will preview songs from their upcoming production of Freaky Friday, and North Fork Community Theatre will offer a peek at its next show, 1776.

Winter Storm 🌨️
A major winter storm is lining up to sweep across the country this weekend, and Long Island is very much in the mix. Confidence is growing that Sunday into Monday could bring significant snowfall to the region, along with sleet, ice, and a deep chill that’s expected to stick around well into next week.
Depending on which model you’re watching, snowfall projections range from roughly 8 to 12 inches on the conservative side, with some forecasts pushing totals even higher. While an official Winter Storm Watch hasn’t been issued for Long Island yet, meteorologists are signaling that conditions are trending in that direction.
Organizers of the North Fork Polar Bear Plunge say they’ll decide by Friday at noon whether Sunday’s event will move forward, be postponed, or be canceled altogether.
