The Lowdown

Online Auction 🛍️

CAST’s annual Blast for CAST returns July 23 at Stirling Square in Greenport, bringing together supporters of one of the North Fork’s most impactful nonprofits.

The event itself is sold out (as usual), but the online silent auction opens to everyone on July 20 at 9 AM. Bidders can browse everything from Hampton Classic VIP tickets and a sail aboard the classic yacht Surprise to golf outings, a Vermont getaway, wine tastings, spa treatments, and local dining experiences.

This year’s event will also honor longtime community supporters Eileen McGuire and John McLane with the Neighbors Helping Neighbors Award for their years of philanthropy, volunteer work, and support of CAST programs.

Public Art Project 🎨

The Greenport Mural Project is looking for a local artist to help turn the Third Street basketball courts into more than just a place to shoot hoops.

The organization has opened a call for artists to design a large scale mural that will stretch roughly 100 feet across the courts’ perimeter fencing. The winning artwork will be digitally reproduced on durable mesh vinyl, creating a new visual centerpiece for the neighborhood.

The selected artist will receive a $1,000 stipend and is being asked to submit a portfolio, concept sketch, artist statement, and short biography. Applications are due August 10. ($)

New Suffolk Waterfront ⛵️

If you've ever spread out a blanket at the New Suffolk Waterfront to watch the Wednesday Night Races, you already know the appeal.

This summer, the New Suffolk Waterfront Fund is adding even more reasons for families to stop by. Every Wednesday through August 26, children in grades K-6 can take part in free supervised activities from 5:30 to 6:30 PM while sailors prepare to race around Robins Island. Including games, art projects, music, conservation lessons, and hands-on maritime fun.

More family programming is on the way, too. Upcoming events include a kids’ seining workshop on July 22, fishing lessons in August, and a Garden Art workshop on August 15 inspired by the Waterfront’s native plant meadow.

New Artisan Collective 🛍️

Greenport just got a little more colorful. Home & Loft opened July 1 on Main Street, bringing together nine independent brands in a thoughtfully curated space.

The concept comes from founder Handan Anlar, whose Turkish cotton home linen and apparel brand has been a familiar face at pop ups, markets, and artisan events for years. Along the way, she built relationships with fellow makers, and when a storefront opportunity appeared, she invited them all in.

Shoppers will find everything from sustainable fashion and handmade jewelry to small batch soaps, stationery, textiles, eyewear, ceramics, vintage inspired accessories, and home goods sourced from around the world.
