🐝 Beautiful Bread and Beautiful Art

An Artful Bakery, Bread And Butter Opens, Dessert Run

Together With Tim O’Keefe

Good Morning, North Fork! There’s always a point on Friday where the day unofficially ends before the clock says it does.

In today’s North Fork Buzz:

  • An Artful Bakery

  • Bread And Butter Opens

  • Dessert Run

Ready, Set, Go!

The Local Advantage 🏠

Anyone can tell you how many bedrooms a house has, but buyers usually remember something else entirely.

Maybe it’s the way the afternoon light hits the kitchen. Maybe it’s the feeling of pulling into the driveway for the first time. Maybe it’s the quietness of the backyard, the walk to town, or the simple realization that a house suddenly feels like somewhere they can actually picture themselves living.

That emotional connection is what turns a showing into serious interest.

It’s also why presentation matters more than most people realize.

The strongest listings are not just photographed well. They are positioned thoughtfully, marketed intentionally, and presented in a way that helps buyers connect with the home before they ever step through the front door.

Because buyers rarely fall in love with square footage alone. They fall in love with how a home feels.

Every home has a story. The goal is making sure buyers actually feel it.

The Lowdown

Little Loaves Gallery is now open in Greenport, bringing together two very civilized things: beautiful bread and beautiful art.

Bonnie Edwards, the longtime gallerist behind Chase Edwards Gallery, has opened the new Main Street spot with a European café feel, shelves of artisan loaves, Lavazza coffee, local East End goods and rotating art from local and national artists.

Visitors can grab sourdough, focaccia, baguettes or something sweet, then browse curated works. Little Loaves Gallery is open Thursday through Sunday from 9 AM to 6 PM.

Bread And Butter Opens 🥪

Bread and Butter Market & Bottle officially opened on Sound Avenue. New owner Diana Roesch DiMenna bought the longtime Wegert’s property earlier this year after spotting the old school market and thinking the location deserved a second life.

Now the once dated deli has been transformed into a bright roadside market stocked with house baked breads, cinnamon rolls, chef made sandwiches, local produce, fresh flowers, gelato made in house and shelves full of everyday essentials.

There’s locally sourced produce from her daughter’s nearby Critterville farm, coffee drinks with every milk option imaginable and canned homemade desserts served with tiny wooden spoons.

DiMenna says the goal was never to create a luxury market or gas station convenience store. She wanted a practical community hub where neighbors can grab an egg sandwich, chat for a few minutes.

Foodie Friday 🍽

Dessert Run 🍰

Sometimes you’re not looking for a full meal. You just want a little something sweet while running errands.

That was the plan when we stopped into Ali Katz Kitchen in Mattituck.

We had popped in looking for something sweet after a morning of bouncing around, and immediately realized this was going to become one of those dangerous places where self control goes to die.

We got the chance to chat with owners Ali and Fritz, who were genuinely warm and welcoming. You can tell a lot of care goes into both the food and the atmosphere there.

Everything looked good, really good. Like standing there for ten straight minutes pointing at different things saying, “wait, what about this?” good.

The pastry case and fridges were stacked with soups, salads, cookies, cakes, and pastries that made narrowing down an order feel difficult.

We somehow managed to narrow it down to two things: the PB+J Bar and a slice of bread pudding.

PB+J Bar

The PB+J Bar felt like the dessert version of comfort food. The peanut butter was rich, soft, and deeply peanut buttery without being overly sweet, almost like a cross between a blondie and the center of a really good peanut butter cookie. Then the blackberry jam came in to balance everything out. Every bite tasted like an upgraded version of the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches everyone grew up eating.

Bread Pudding

We warmed ours up and added a scoop of vanilla ice cream because that is simply how bread pudding is meant to be eaten. The pudding itself was soft and rich without feeling overly heavy, with little pockets of melted chocolate throughout that made every few bites even better. Honestly, exactly what you want bread pudding to taste like.

If you haven’t been to Ali Katz Kitchen yet, do yourself a favor and head over there this weekend. Just know there is a very high probability you’ll walk in planning to grab one thing and leave carrying out a box. (We might be there doing the exact same thing.)

We’ll definitely be back to try more of the menu because there were at least twelve other things we almost ordered while standing there pretending to be decisive. And considering Saturdays are Fried Chicken Day at Ali Katz Kitchen, do not be surprised if a future Foodie Friday involves us reporting back on that situation too.
