Budget Time 📚💰
Big decisions are coming for North Fork libraries!
Library budget votes for the 2025-26 fiscal year are happening this spring, and each library is looking to level up its services. Here’s what’s on the table:
📍 Cutchogue-New Suffolk Free Library is proposing a 4.01% tax levy increase, bringing the total budget to $2,049,157. No major projects, but they’re rolling out more programming and even launching a podcast. Vote April 8, 2-8 p.m. at the library.
📍 Southold Free Library is keeping things tight with a 2% tax levy increase, bringing their budget to $1,260,454. No capital projects, but plenty of community programs. Vote May 20, 3-9 p.m. at Southold High School gym.
📍 Floyd Memorial Library (serving East Marion, Greenport, and Orient) will announce its budget plans soon—stay tuned!

North Fork’s Got Hops 🍺
The 2025 New York State Craft Beer Competition just wrapped up, and it's kind of a big deal. We're talking 1,300+ entries, 200+ breweries, and 32 different beer style categories. The judges spent two full days in Rochester sipping, swirling, and deciding which beers deserved top honors before revealing the winners at the NYS Brewers Conference in Albany.
And guess what? Greenport Harbor Brewing Co. just walked away with some serious hardware. Their American Double IPA, Hopnami, snagged the silver medal! The category had 21 entries, with Saber’s Edge from Pearl Street Grill & Brewery taking gold and Pacific Dawn from Captain Lawrence Brewing Co. earning bronze. Congrats GHBC!
Greenport Varsity Baseball is Back ⚾️
After nearly two years off the field, the Porters are stepping up to the plate on Monday, March 31, against Bridgehampton/Ross. Their last game was way back in May 2023—23 months ago!
Leading the charge? Seniors Kal-El Marine, Daniel Rivas, and Cayden Wills. Marine is a do-it-all player, covering center field, shortstop, and pitcher. Rivas is holding it down behind the plate as catcher, and Wills will split time between shortstop and the mound.
Head coach Chris Golden knows it’s tough to keep a baseball program running in a small school, especially with so many athletes committed to other sports. But the team is ready to grind and make their return count. ($)
