The Lowdown

Cooler Than Cool 🧊

Jade Eckardt and her 15-year-old son, Kaulualoha Aipa are Greenport’s coolest new entrepreneurs (literally). They’re the creative minds behind North Fork Coolers, a line of handcrafted patio coolers made from upcycled materials and serious summer vibes.

Mom brings the eye for vintage treasures. Son brings the hustle. Together, they turn salvaged wood, old furniture, and brass hardware into custom-built, ice-holding works of art, each one wrapped around a brand-new Igloo or Coleman.

These babies go for about $1,900, and every one is custom. Want a bottom shelf? Done. Need a built-in counter? You got it. Order through Etsy or just text them like it's 2009.

Courthouse Coming in Hot 🚨

Southold’s getting a glow-up in the public safety department. The town just picked a 3.47-acre site at 41625 Main Road in Peconic (right next to the current police station) to build a brand-new police HQ and justice court.

The Plan:

  • First, they’ll build the new police station behind the existing one.

  • Then, demo day, out goes the old building.

  • In its place? A shiny new standalone justice court.

  • The whole thing’s gonna take at least five years, so mark your calendars for 2030.

The upgrades will help the department earn state accreditation with proper AV-equipped interrogation rooms, secure evidence storage, and actual holding cells, not 1950s leftovers.

This long-awaited project is finally in motion, and while it’s not happening overnight, it’s a major move toward a more modern, efficient, and accredited future for Southold’s justice system.

North Fork Pride Is Back 🏳️‍🌈

North Fork Pride is making its grand return to Greenport this Sunday, June 22. Hosted by the LGBT Network, this third annual bash puts LGBTQ+ visibility front and center while reminding everyone that Greenport is, and always will be, a safe and inclusive place to be yourself.

Here’s a breakdown of what you need to know:

12 PM, the parade kicks off down Main Street with a colorful mix of floats, school groups, LGBTQ+ orgs, and allies dancing their way to Mitchell Park. Think flags, glitter, speakers turned all the way up, and enough joy to power the ferry.

12–5 PM, Mitchell Park transforms into a free, family-friendly Pride festival with live music, food trucks, beer & wine, crafts, a wellness tent, community booths, and even some surprise giveaways.

Bonus: The weekend kicks off Saturday night at American Beech (302 Main St.), with cocktails, bites, dancing, entertainment, and good vibes. Tickets are $50 and worth every sparkle. ($)
