If you drove past Mattituck Plaza last week and wondered why Snoopy, the Grinch, and even a Stranger Things monster were staring back at you from storefront windows, don’t worry, you didn’t slip into the Upside Down.
It’s just Mattituck-Cutchogue High School keeping one of the North Fork’s sweetest traditions alive.
For the 16th year running, students from grades 9–12 took over Main Road to hand paint holiday murals on the windows of 12 local businesses, a tradition started by art teacher Dina Rose, who watched it grow from 20 kids in 2009 to a full-blown 70 student holiday takeover this year.($)

Northeast Stage just absorbed the upstart Corchaug Repertory Theatre, meaning a fresh new board, new energy, and some serious creative momentum.
The 40-year-old theater company, best known for its summer Shakespeare magic, is shaking things up this December with “Lessons from Hollywood,” a brand-new play by local playwright James Pritchard, running Dec. 5–14 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.
What’s the play about: A recently widowed gay man leaves NYC and returns to his conservative South Carolina family for Christmas, just in time for his mother’s sudden passing to force decades of unspoken family issues into the open. It’s funny. It’s dramatic. It’s heartfelt.

Feed the Fork ❤️
A powerhouse crew of locals, farmers, chefs, volunteers, and big hearted neighbors is teaming up through Food Rescue US/North Fork, the new kid on the nonprofit block using an app to whisk extra food from businesses straight to folks who need it.
Their latest mission? Snap Into Action, launched during the government shutdown to turbo charge food deliveries. And when local farmers started raising their hands with mountains of surplus produce, volunteers jumped in.
And the need? It’s real. North Fork Parish Outreach in Greenport is expecting to feed 4,363 people this year, a 64% jump since 2019. All without a dime of government funding.

Local Spotlight
Poinsettias & Pine 🌺🌲
On the most recent Out East with Doug Geed, the cozy sweaters, and full holiday spirit are officially out. Doug takes us deep into a North Fork winter, from glowing greenhouses to fresh cut Christmas trees, capturing the magic that sneaks in when the cold settles.
First stop: CJ Van Bourgondien, where greenhouse after greenhouse is bursting with vibrant poinsettias gearing up for their Christmas debut. Doug walks us through the warmth, hustle, and behind-the-scenes magic of these holiday blooms, the quiet heartbeat of the season before the celebrations even begin.
Then it’s off to Zuhoski Farms in Cutchogue, where holiday cheer smells like crisp pine and the sawdust practically sparkles. Doug dives into the beloved tradition of cutting your own Christmas tree a choose-your-tree adventure that feels less like shopping and more like making a memory.
