The Lowdown
Land Trader 🏡
For years, North Fork residents have wondered what billionaire landowner Stefan Soloviev ultimately planned to do with the more than 1,000 acres he has assembled across the North Fork and Shelter Island.
A new interview with New York Magazine may have offered the clearest answer yet: preserving farmland isn't what keeps him up at night.
Soloviev described himself bluntly as a "land trader," saying he buys property because he sees opportunity.
The comments stand in sharp contrast to previous statements from the Soloviev Group emphasizing land stewardship, agricultural heritage, and preservation.
The interview also sheds light on how Soloviev views local criticism. Whether discussing his proposed conservation subdivisions in Cutchogue, which could eventually add dozens of luxury homes to his holdings, or the backlash surrounding the closure of Shelter Island's only pharmacy, he made clear that public approval isn't a major factor in his decision making.

Love Story From 1775 💍
For one afternoon, the clock turned back to 1775 in Cutchogue.
More than 120 guests gathered at the Cutchogue Presbyterian Church this past weekend to witness a Colonial era wedding reenactment honoring the real life marriage of Elizabeth Case and Revolutionary War veteran Gershom Terry, who wed before the Declaration of Independence was signed.
Complete with period music, authentic costumes, and historical recipes, the event was part of Suffolk County's America 250 celebrations and transformed the church into something that looked straight out of the 18th century.
The ceremony was brought to life by members of the MacNish and Cavanaugh families, with real life husband and wife Kenneth and Meghan MacNish portraying the happy couple. Pastor Richie King guided the pair through Colonial vows using passages from the King James Bible.
Afterward, the celebration moved downstairs for ginger cakes, traditional springerle cookies, Revolutionary War era songs, and Colonial dancing.

Animal of The Week
Meet JoJo, a medium sized shepherd mix with a warm reddish brown coat, a distinguished gray muzzle, and an easygoing personality that makes you feel like you've known him forever. He's the Cillian Murphy of the dog world, calm, confident, and completely unbothered by just about anything. JoJo doesn't need to be the center of attention. He's perfectly happy settling in beside you and enjoying whatever the day brings.
One of the best things about JoJo is just how easy he is to live with. He's house trained, sleeps through the night in his crate, walks nicely with a harness, rides comfortably in the car, and handles stairs like a pro. Strangers don't bother him, other dogs don't bother him, and he's generally a quiet guy overall. Every now and then he'll let out an adorable little chirping bark that somehow makes him even more charming. Add in his love of treats, and you've got a dog who's mastered the art of being a very good boy.
JoJo is proof that mature dogs have a lot to offer. No chaos. No guessing. Just a good natured companion who's ready to slide right into your life and make himself at home. If you're looking for a loyal best buddy with a calm spirit and a heart of gold, JoJo is waiting to meet you.

Lighthouse Adventure 🛥️
Most people have seen Bug Light from a distance, fewer have actually stood on it.
That's what makes the East End Seaport Museum's Bug Light Cruises a little different from your typical boat ride. Running Saturday evenings from July through October, the cruise offers passengers the rare chance to step ashore at the historic lighthouse itself.
The trip isn't just about the destination, either. Along the way, you'll cruise through some of the North Fork's most scenic waters, with views stretching across Gardiners Bay, Shelter Island, and the Peconic River. Keep your eyes open and you may even spot nesting birds and other wildlife that spend the summer along the shoreline.
For history buffs, photographers, boat lovers, or anyone looking for a memorable summer evening on the water, this experience is one that reminds you how much beauty is sitting right in our backyard.
