Aldo's Documentary ☕️

Aldo's Coffee Co. is the focus of a new eight minute documentary created by Kojo Films, a Long Island production company that reached out to owner Josh Sommer at almost the exact moment he was looking for a way to tell the shop's story visually.

The crew spent three days filming everything from coffee roasting to the morning rush, while also interviewing Sommer, head roaster Rae McMahon and longtime regulars about what Aldo's has meant to them over the years.

The documentary has already struck a chord online. A teaser posted to Instagram racked up nearly 100,000 views and even caught the attention of a U.K. production company exploring a possible PBS series.

Water Talk 💧

The Suffolk County Water Authority will host a public meeting at 5 PM on Wednesday, Aug. 6 at the Greenport Fire Department to discuss last week's Stage 1 water alert and answer questions about its proposed North Fork pipeline.

The water alert covers all SCWA customers in Southold Town and Shelter Island after a moderate regional drought combined with record water demand. Residents are being asked to hold off on watering lawns unless it's necessary to help maintain water pressure, especially for fire protection.

The meeting will also cover the proposed 12 mile pipeline that would carry water from Flanders to the North Fork. ($)

Animal of The Week

Stick 🐾

Meet Stick, a playful little goofball who's guaranteed to keep you smiling.

She might be a bit shy when you first meet her, but give her a little time and you'll discover a cat with a huge personality. Once Stick feels safe, she's all about zoomies, chasing toys, making up her own games, and turning just about anything into entertainment. If there's fun to be had, she'll find it.

Stick is the perfect match for someone who appreciates an active, curious cat with plenty of personality. She'll keep you laughing with her silly antics, then happily settle in once she's burned off some energy. Watching her confidence grow and her playful side shine is one of the best parts of getting to know her.

Stick is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, microchipped, and ready to find a family of her own. If your home could use a little more laughter, a little more fun, and a whole lot of personality, Stick is ready to make herself right at home.

The Most Memorable Photos 📸

Some photographs are easy to admire. Others have a way of following you home.

They're the ones you keep thinking about long after you've looked away, a fleeting expression, perfect light, or a moment that somehow says more than words ever could. That's the idea behind IMPACT, the photography exhibition coming to the North Fork Arts Center that celebrates the images that leave a lasting impression.

Open to East End photographers of every age and experience level, IMPACT invites professionals, hobbyists, students, and anyone who loves making pictures to submit up to three photographs for consideration. Rather than focusing solely on technical perfection, the exhibition is looking for photographs that tell a story, reveal beauty, or simply refuse to be forgotten. Every submission will be reviewed through a blind jury process, keeping the focus squarely on the work itself.

If you've been waiting for a reason to print that favorite photo sitting on your hard drive, or you've been looking for your first chance to exhibit your work, this might be it. Submissions are open through August 24.
