Big Moves in Cutchogue š
A division of the Soloviev Group just filed plans for a 372-acre conservation subdivision stretching from Route 48 to the Long Island Sound. The proposal, called the Colusa Conservation Subdivision, includes 47 new homes, with 18 overlooking the Sound, and 267 acres slated to be preserved through the sale of development rights to Southold Town and Suffolk County.
Planning Director Heather Lanza told the town board this is one of the largest projects Southoldās ever seen. But sheās not ready to sign off just yet.
Lanza says the plan, as filed, doesnāt match Southoldās Comprehensive Plan and needs major changes, including tighter clustering of homes, fewer roads cutting through farmland, and breaking up the giant 240-acre farm block into three to five smaller farms to make it more workable for future farmers.
The project will also go through a state environmental review (SEQRA), and if the board decides it has āmoderate to large impactsā on farmland, it could trigger a full Environmental Impact Statement.

Olivia Zehil, a 17-year-old Girl Scout saw a problem and built the solution, literally.
When her little brother wanted to kick a soccer ball around after school but didnāt have one, Olivia decided no kid should miss out just because theyāre short on gear. So she built two sports lending sheds, one at Southold Elementary and one at Southold High stocked with balls, sticks, and equipment anyone can borrow and use right on the fields.
The project earned her the Girl Scoutsā Gold Award, the highest honor a Scout can achieve. ($)

Dog of The Week
Meet Micah š¾
Meet Micah, a pointer mix so elegant he could star in a BBC drama, but heād rather be your hiking buddy.
Micahās got it all: the looks, the manners, and the heart. Heās affectionate, playful, and social with both people and pups. He moves with the kind of smooth, graceful stride that says āborn athlete,ā but donāt be fooled, heās just as happy leaning into you for cuddles at the end of the day.
This curious explorer comes alive outdoors (picture him sniffing through tall grass or trotting down a trail), yet heās a total gentleman indoors, quiet, house-trained, and polite as can be. He may be a little shy at first, but give him a minute and heāll melt right into your heart and probably your lap.
Come meet Micah at the North Fork Animal Welfare Leagueās Southold location, call 631-765-1811 ext. 1.

Trivia Time š§
Your brain deserves more than scrolling and skimming. Each week weāll hit you with one question designed to make you pause, scratch your head, and maybe argue with whoeverās sitting next to you. Think of it as a quick mental pit stop: a chance to flex your random knowledge, test your memory, or finally use that obscure fact you learned in 7th grade.
Just click one of the multiple-choice answers to see if you got it right!

65% of you nailed it the rest might need to rewatch the trilogy (and maybe invest in a flux capacitor).

Local Spotlight
Pick Your Pumpkin š
The team at Zeifman Orthodontics in Mattituck is getting into the Halloween spirit, and theyāve brought some serious pumpkin flair to the chair.
Local dental offices went all out for this yearās Pumpkin Decorating Contest, transforming their gourds into spooky, silly, and smile-worthy creations. Now itās your turn to play judge.
Head to @zeifmanortho and vote for your favorite pumpkin by leaving a comment on the contest post.
Bragging rights and maybe a little office glory are on the line.
Smoke, Sweat, and Skill š
Things got a little smoky at the Southold Firehouse Monday night, but donāt worry, it was all part of the plan.
On the last Monday of every month, the Southold Fire Department turns up the heat for hands-on training right at headquarters. This monthās session? A Class A live fire drill where the Rapid Intervention Team practiced rescuing a trapped firefighter through a second-floor window.
Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to see through thick theatrical smoke and worked a charged hose line through tight spaces, all while keeping radio chatter tight between Command, RIT, and the Search/Hose Line teams.
Itās tough, sweaty work, but itās how Southoldās finest stay sharp and ready when it really counts.
Huge thanks to the Southold Fire Department for putting in the work to keep our community safe.
