Sip, Chat, Synergize ā˜•ļø

Mark your calendars and dust off your best business-casual vineyard attire, Southold’s Economic Development Committee (EDC) is throwing its very first Synergy Summit on Tuesday, April 22 from 9–11 AM at Raphael Vineyards in Cutchogue.

What’s it all about? Think networking meets roundtable brainstorming meets community-powered economic glow-up. Local leaders will gather to sip coffee, swap ideas, and build an Action Plan to keep Southold thriving. Yes, there will be light bites. Yes, they’ll probably be delicious.

This summit is part of the EDC’s ongoing mission to boost local biz through fun, forward-thinking events—like WinterFest, Economic Forums, and BizChats (a.k.a. happy hour with a purpose). Register šŸ‘‰ Here

Duck, Duck, Rebuild šŸ¦†

Things got real quacky for Crescent Duck Farm in Aquebogue this January when a nasty strain of avian flu wiped out their entire flock—yep, all 100,000 ducks. But owner Doug Corwin isn’t letting that be the end of the road.

He’s now raising two flocks of ducklings (cutest comeback story ever?) with hopes they’ll reach maturity by late summer. These little guys aren’t just adorable—they’re the last living link to the farm’s one-of-a-kind genetics. Talk about pressure.

Meanwhile, the farm is under serious quarantine. We’re talking wet disinfection, dry fumigation, and enough biosecurity to make a sci-fi lab jealous. Even though they're cleared for retesting, Doug’s playing it safe and waiting until April 28.

Doug’s also calling for better biosecurity and vaccines, saying small farms like his can’t afford another all-ducks-on-deck disaster.

This place isn’t just another farm—it’s Long Island’s last commercial duck operation and it’s been in Doug’s family since 1908. If resilience had a mascot, it’d probably be one of those six-week-old ducklings waddling toward a comeback. ($)
