The Lowdown
North Fork’s Heart Program ❤️
Dr. Stanley Katz didn’t grow up dreaming of medicine, he wanted to be a soccer star. But life had other plans, and lucky for the North Fork, it led him straight to revolutionizing cardiac care at Peconic Bay Medical Center.
After training across Israel, the Bronx, and Long Island, Dr. Katz brought decades of expertise to PBMC in 2016 with one mission: give East End patients the same life saving care they’d find at big city hospitals, without the long transfer west.
True to form, he didn’t just build the hospital’s first cardiac catheterization lab, he built trust. Dr. Katz became known for sitting with patients overnight after procedures, answering questions, and acting as their personal medical advocate.
Under his leadership, the cath lab earned a spot among the top 100 in the country, expanded into lifesaving electrophysiology care, and helped transform PBMC into a regional medical powerhouse. ($)

New Creative Space 🎨
Ore + Earth is the newest art studio on Shelter Island, dreamed up by artist besties Liliandra Vivolo and Pauline Fink, and it’s already becoming a cozy hub for makers of all kinds. They opened quietly this summer, the studio offers rotating public art classes plus subscription studio space for local artists who need a place to spread out, get messy, and create on their own schedule.
Rooted in ceramics, metalwork, and a shared love of “let’s just make something,” the duo has built an art lab meets community space that’s welcoming, flexible, and totally unpretentious.
After closing a smaller gallery, they’ve gone all-in on the studio model, bringing in guest artists for everything from printmaking and figure drawing to felting and holiday card making, with after-school classes for kids starting in January.

Deck the Trees 🎄
Mattituck is officially decking the halls and the streets. The village just kicked off its First Annual “Deck the Trees on Love & Main”, and it’s all about holiday cheer, school spirit, and good old-fashioned community pride.
Thanks to the Mattituck Chamber, the Mattituck-Cutchogue PTSA, and a whole lot of festive volunteers, 30 pre-lit trees now line Love Lane and Main Road, each one decorated by local teams, clubs, and community groups.
What started as 20 trees sold out in just two days, so organizers added 10 more to keep the sparkle going. Decorators have until December 15 to work their winter magic, with awards for most creative, most fun, holiday magic, and community pride running through January 3.
