Festival of Trees 🎄
If A Charlie Brown Christmas taught us anything, it’s that a little tree + a lot of heart = holiday magic. And since 2020, CAST has been running that playbook.
Instead of one tiny tree, they’re decking out more than 20 seriously over-the-top, Christmas trees, all to support Southold residents who are living at or below the poverty line.
The whole thing takes place on November 22-23 at Treiber Farms, who generously hand over their barns every November so CAST can turn them into a full-blown holiday wonderland.
The Festival of Trees raises $150,000+ every year to fund food programs, housing support, healthcare help, education, and job assistance for local families.

P.S. Yes, North Fork Buzz has a tree this year, and no, we’re not telling you that you should bid on it, but if you happen to think it’s the best one there and want to take it home, who are we to argue? Seriously though, there are some incredible trees this year. We’re so excited for everyone to see them and to raise lots of money for CAST!
BookTok 📚
Before BookTok was a global force capable of turning authors into bestsellers overnight, it started in Mattituck. It traces back to local resident Cait Jacobs, who just wanted someone to talk about stories with.
Jacobs began with a humble book blog in 2017, building a tiny, cozy community of readers. Then in 2019, while working children’s programming at the Cutchogue Library, they hopped on TikTok to understand what the teens were talking about.
Then March 2020 hit. One video blew up. And suddenly, BookTok was a thing and Cait was at the center of it.
Fast-forward to today: Jacobs is a full time BookTok influencer, a USA Today bestselling author, and the creative force behind the YA romantasy novel “The Princess Knight.”($)

Double Win for Peconic Landing 🏆
Peconic Landing just scored a double win on the national stage. U.S. News & World Report named both The Bluffs (short-term rehab) and The Shores (skilled nursing) among the country’s Best Nursing Homes for 2026, and not just on the list, but with the top-tier “High Performing” rating. Only a tiny fraction of the 15,000+ facilities reviewed earn that honor.
In a year when the rankings added tougher metrics, like weekend staffing and infection-related hospitalizations, Peconic Landing stood out for consistency, safety, and real-world outcomes.
Leadership credits the recognition to their highly stable, deeply committed care teams at The Bluffs and The Shores. Even amid industry wide staffing shortages, they’ve kept quality high and compassion at the center.
