North Forkās robotics team got a full on hometown parade Sunday after returning from the world stage.
The 26 student R.I.C.E. 870 squad, made up of students from Southold, Mattituck, and Greenport, wrapped up a three day global competition in Houston with a fourth place finish in their division. The event drew about 600 teams from around the world.
Their return matched the moment. School buses rolled through town with escorts from the Cutchogue, Mattituck, and Southold fire departments, turning the trip home into something closer to a victory lap than a ride back. ($)

Tastes of Coastal Croatia šš·
John-Paul StaniÅ”iÄ recently released Tastes of Coastal Croatia, a self produced cookbook that blends his 25+ years in design with a deep connection to his Croatian heritage.
And when he says self produced, he means it. Photos, layout, retouching, marketing, all him. No big publishing team, just one person building a cookbook from scratch in his home kitchen.
The book pulls together recipes across the board: seafood, meat, sides, desserts, but what makes it land is the storytelling. These arenāt just instructions; each dish comes with a backstory, often tied to family, tradition, or a memory passed down.
A lot of that came from working side by side with his mom, Maria StaniÅ”iÄ, who he credits with helping bring the history behind the recipes to life.

Oyster Farms Get a Boost š¦Ŗ
A rough winter nearly iced out parts of Long Islandās oyster industry, now some East End growers are getting a much-needed assist.
Kathy Hochul announced $3 million in state grants for 14 aquaculture businesses, with several East End oyster farms on the list.
The timing matters. This past winterās deep freeze crushed cages, wrecked gear, and wiped out millions in oyster production, a hit that small, family run farms donāt exactly have the margin to absorb.
The grants are part of a broader push to strengthen Long Islandās aquaculture sector, now one of the fastest growing slices of the regionās agriculture, with more than 150 farms across Suffolk County.
Still, the reality is fragile. One extreme season can throw everything off. This winter already has farmers rethinking how they operate, from ditching floating cages that couldnāt handle the ice to investing in tougher, more resilient setups.

Shelter Island Flowers š
After nearly a decade running Island Time Farm, Kelci McIntosh and Chris DiOrio are opening Shelter Island Flowers, a brick and mortar shop debuting just in time for Motherās Day weekend.
The timing isnāt random. With longtime island florist Becky Smith retiring after 45 years, thereās suddenly an opening, and the couple is stepping in with bouquets built from flowers theyāve been growing themselves since launching Island Time Farm back in 2017.
Motherās Day is the soft launch, with limited hours leading into a fuller schedule by Memorial Day weekend. After that, theyāre already booked for weddings and gearing up for a full season of events.

ReWild North Fork is gathering friends, neighbors, and community partners to help plant four native gardens across the North Fork through its Community Gardens Program. The plantings are happening Wednesday, May 6 and Friday, May 8, two chances to get your hands in the dirt and be part of something thatāll stick around long after the day is done.
Itās a nice one for anyone who likes gardening, being outside, or doing something for the community.
