New Wetland Rules 🌊
The Town Board voted 5–1 to approve a batch of wetlands code changes, and depending who you ask, it’s either long overdue or way overboard.
Here’s the short of it:
Pools now need to be 60 feet from wetlands (up from 50).
New eco-terms hit the books.
Docks: Banned on several small freshwater and brackish ponds.
And if your deck’s falling apart, you can now repair up to 50% without a new permit.
Not everyone’s thrilled. Homeowners near the newly protected ponds spoke out against the dock restrictions, while environmental advocates told the board to stand firm as development pressure ramps up.

Babtist’s Theatre Comeback 🎭
Orient’s own Jennifer Babtist is swapping cult classics for curtain calls. You might remember her as Wanda, the wickedly unhinged villain from The Toxic Avenger (1984). This month, she’s back in the spotlight, but this time, she’s playing Grandma in Edward Albee’s The American Dream
Director Christian Lepore spotted Babtist at a local Toxic Avenger screening in September and took a chance casting her in a lead role.
Catch the show at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, November 14-16.

Gettin’ Fizzy With It 🥤
Ever had a Gazoz? It’s a bubbly, fruit-filled seltzer that’s big in Europe and about to take Peconic by storm.
On Sunday, Panoramica, that retro-futuristic coffee shop teamed up with Laura Klahre of Blossom Meadow Farm for a sparkling collab.
Panoramica’s newest drink: the Gazoz, made with Laura’s brand-new Cosmo Jam, a mix of raspberries, strawberries, lime, and a dash of orange bitters. It’s sweet, tangy, and just the right kind of fancy.
Laura and Panoramica’s Travis Zurawski bonded over sustainability, pollinators, and how to make Peconic’s tiny downtown buzz again. Panoramica’s already teaming up with Chronicle Wines for “Soup Wars” Sundays and rolling out cozy soup and sandwich nights on Mondays and Tuesdays. Now add Gazoz’s to the list.
