Feeding Families, Not Landfills 🍽️♻️

North Fork Food Rescue US has made a big impact in just two years, rescuing over 40,000 pounds of excess food from local farms and bagel shops—up from 8,000 pounds in its first year. Volunteers quickly collect and distribute fresh produce and baked goods to food pantries and shelters, ensuring that families from Riverhead to Orient Point have access to meals instead of letting food go to waste.

With over 3,100 people relying on the rescued food, the demand is growing. The organization is now seeking more donors and volunteers, to continue its mission of “filling plates, not landfills.” Interested in helping? Reach out to [email protected]. ($)

Ballots Counted, Board Set 🗳️👥

Greenport voters have spoken—Mary Bess Phillips and Julia Robins are staying on the Village Board. Phillips led the pack with 150 votes, followed by Robins with 135.

It was a close race, with Roric Tobin (131 votes), write-in candidate Patricia Hammes (118), Scott Hollid (111), and Margaret De Cruz (53) missing the cut.

But the election wasn’t without drama. Just days before the vote, Mayor Kevin Stuessi called for Phillips to step down as Deputy Mayor over $100K in unpaid village debts. She resigned but said she’s been working on a payment plan since the pandemic.

After three hours of ballot counting, Robins summed it up best—she’s just relieved it’s over.
