Brush Fires Cause Chaos on Long Island 🔥🌲🚨

A series of intense brush fires broke out Saturday afternoon, in Long Island’s Pine Barrens, causing major road closures and a large-scale emergency response. The fires spread quickly from Center Moriches to East Moriches, Eastport, and Westhampton, prompting the shutdown of key roads like Sunrise Highway and Speonk-Riverhead Road to assist firefighters.

With over 90 fire departments and the National Guard working together, the wind didn’t make it easy, with gusts reaching 30 mph. By Sunday, the fires were out, but only 22% contained. Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency as the situation continued to unfold.

Detectives are working to determine the origin of the fires and if arson played a role.
A big Thank You to the 600+ personnel who responded to assist with the efforts.

Slumber Parties, Beach Picnics & More 🛏 🏝

Little NoFo is bringing the party straight to your backyard — or living room! Founded by cousins Jensen Conklin and Danielle Danowski, they’re all about dreamy kids' events with themes like teepee slumber parties, outdoor movie nights, beach picnics, and poolside hangs.

They set it all up (think teepees, projectors, lounge seating, and even a porcelain tea set), and you get to soak in the fun. Want to level up? Add a white bounce house or ball pit. They work with local vendors for treats and decor, making luxe celebrations stress-free and surprisingly affordable. Pro tip: book a month ahead to lock in your date!

Ospreys are back, baby! 🦅

Mattituck Parks District is throwing its annual "Return of the Osprey" bash on Sunday, March 16, at noon at Breakwater Beach. Come for the birds, stay for the good vibes — they’re installing a nesting platform, cleaning up the beach, and even hosting a scavenger hunt.

The ospreys typically show up right around St. Patrick’s Day (they know how to time a party), and this event is all about celebrating their comeback after a rough patch due to DDT exposure. Volunteers will help set up safe nesting spots and clear out dangerous debris like fishing lines and balloons.

No rain date, so dress in layers, bring some gloves, and get ready to welcome spring with wings wide open! ($)
