The Lowdown
$149K to Declutter 📄
Turns out Greenport’s biggest clutter problem isn’t in your neighbor’s garage, it’s in Village Hall.
Mayor Kevin Stuessi just announced that the village scored a $149,531 New York State Archives grant to keep cleaning up decades of old, inactive records.
Clerk Candace Hall and Deputy Clerk Jeanmarie Oddon have already tossed 300 boxes, all at no cost to the village. Fun fact: those papers get recycled into toilet paper for state parks. Talk about full-circle sustainability.
Why does this matter? Because better organization = better service. Need a birth record, a death certificate, or proof you really did reserve that slip at Mitchell Park back in ’02? Village Hall wants you to actually be able to find it and fast. ($)

The North Fork’s New Crop 🌱
Think the North Fork is all vineyards now? Think again. The old potato and cauliflower fields have given way to a colorful patchwork of mushrooms, flowers, grass-fed beef, and farms that are as much about healing the soil as they are about filling your plate.
The big story: farmers here are rewriting the rulebook, ditching the chemical-heavy practices of the past and leaning into sustainable, biodynamic, and no-till farming.
🍄 Mushroom Power
Artists-turned-growers Agathe Snow & Anthony Holbrooke of Mattituck Mushrooms are the new rockstars of the farm scene. Their low-tech, upcycled mushroom farm just scored a Slow Food East End Snail of Approval, and their fungi are popping up on menus all over the Fork.
🐝 Pollinators
Laura Klahre of Blossom Meadow Farm is basically a pollinator whisperer. She’s cranking out jams in flavors like blueberry-violet and Cara Cara orange, all while championing bees and their lesser-known cousins, flower flies.
👩🌾 Food Hub
The local food system is about to get even stronger. Thanks to a $5M state grant, the long-awaited East End Food Hub in Riverhead is finally happening, bringing farmers the commercial kitchens and packing space they need to keep more of our food local.

18 Bay Eyes Jamesport 🍝
Big foodie comeback alert: Chefs Elizabeth Ronzetti & Adam Kopels (aka the James Beard nominated duo behind Shelter Island’s beloved 18 Bay) are about to give Jamesport something to talk about.
Their plan? Take over the old Dimon Estate / Jamesport Manor Inn and turn it into a sleek, 80-seat fine dining spot serving their signature Italian-inspired four-course menus (antipasti - handmade pasta - entrée - dessert) alongside a curated wine list and cocktails. No catering, no tents, no weddings, no late night bar scene. Just dinner.
Next up: a public hearing in mid-September to make it official. ($)
