Summer Nights in Mattituck 🎶

The Mattituck Park District kicked off its summer concert series this past Saturday with Mean Gene & the Flamethrowers rocking a sunny '60s tribute at Veterans Memorial Park, and that’s just the beginning.

The free concert series runs all summer long, next up on the lineup:
Who Are Those Guys – July 5
The Eagle River Band – July 19
Four Way Street – August 9
Liverpool Shuffle – August 31
All shows run from 5–7:30 PM, so bring your lawn chairs and maybe your dancing shoes.

But wait, there’s more. The district is also hosting Movies in the Park on August 15 and September 7, complete with popcorn and Magic Fountain ice cream under the stars.

Inside NFAWL’s Big Heart 🐶

Just before Christmas, a tiny white puppy was found hiding under a deck in Riverhead, emaciated, freezing, and badly injured. The North Fork Animal Welfare League (NFAWL) rushed him into emergency surgery, gave him a name (Saint Nick), and asked the community for help. The response? A flood of donations that covered his five-figure medical bill. Fast-forward to today: Nick is living his best life with a forever family.

But here’s the thing, this isn’t some once-a-year miracle. This is NFAWL’s every day.

Founded in 1963, NFAWL runs two no-kill shelters (Peconic & Aquebogue), open 24/7 and full of tail wags, scratchy purrs, and second chances.

They even run a Guardian Angel Fund for pets who need major medical care and partner with Pets for Vets, which waives adoption fees and offers support for veterans adopting shelter dogs.

Volunteers? Always welcome. Whether you want to walk dogs, cuddle kittens, assist at adoption events, or read a bedtime story to a shy pup, there’s a job for everyone. (Kids too, as long as they bring a grown-up!)

Scrubbing Out After 40+ Years 🩺

Dr. Lloyd Simon, the longtime Chief Medical Officer at Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital is retiring at the end of June.

He started practicing in Southold back in 1983 and never looked back. From building the hospital’s addiction recovery program to leading Quannacut as Medical Director, Dr. Simon’s fingerprints are all over SBELIH’s growth.

He championed behavioral health, leveled up emergency care, helped the hospital become a Primary Stroke Center, and guided its integration into the Stony Brook Medicine system.

Oh, and he’s been named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor more times than your grandma's asked if you’re hungry.

Thank you for helping shape a healthier community. ($)
