The Lowdown
From Squad Car to School Bus 🚌
After 20+ years with the Southold Police Department, most people would be ready to kick back. Not Tim McGowan. The Mattituck native hung up his badge in December, and by spring, he was behind the wheel of a school bus.
Now, instead of sirens, it’s school bells. And instead of traffic stops, it’s fist bumps to board the bus.
Seriously, no one gets on or off without one. Fridays come with Lifesavers. Conversations range from last night’s dinner to weekend plans.
The best part? He’s driving the same streets he once patrolled, picking up kids whose parents and grandparents he’s known for decades.
As his old cop buddies say: Tim was made for this job. And honestly? He’s having a blast.

Back at the Keys 🎹
Once told not to play piano in public, Steven Blier is now gearing up for one heck of a year, and a brand-new memoir to prove it. From Ear to Ear drops November 18, and it’s packed with hilarious, heartfelt stories from a lifetime of music.
Blier, a Grammy-winning pianist and Juilliard faculty member, splits his time between New York and “Rancho Obsesso” his summer hideaway in Orient where music, meals, and laptop sessions on the porch are a way of life.
This Sunday, August 3 at 3 PM, Blier brings his signature blend of soul and humor to Poquatuck Hall with Steven Blier with Lucia Bradford: Jazz, Blues and Broadway Tunes.
Not bad for a guy who was once told to keep his hands off the keys. ($)

Not Your Average Musical 🎶
This weekend, the North Fork Community Theatre is transforming into something straight out of a smoky blues club.
Blue Light Club, the brainchild of musician and storyteller Jack Licitra, hits the stage Friday, Aug. 8 at 7:30 PM and Sunday, Aug. 10 at 2:30 PM. It’s part musical, part play, and 100% unlike anything you’ve seen.
Picture this: A jazz and blues band playing their hearts out inside a fictional club, with a live DJ interviewing the musicians as they open up about their lives, their struggles, and how music helped them find their way. There’s conflict, soul-searching, and a reminder that community, especially the kind you find in a music scene, is what really holds us together. ($)

Dog of The Week
Meet Travis. He’s young. He’s loyal. He’s got the zoomies and the manners.
This handsome guy loves belly rubs, long walks, and showing off how well he listens (he’s basically fluent in Sit, Stay, and Good Boy). Travis is housebroken, fully vaccinated, and knows his way around a doggy door like a seasoned pro.
He’s equal parts playful and snuggly, with a heart as big as his bark is soft. Basically, if your dream dog is a friendly, intelligent, yard-loving good boy who wants nothing more than to be part of the fam, Travis is your guy.
