Two Ghost Houses, One Big Problem 🏚️

Mattituck’s got a bit of a haunted house problem, but not the fun, Halloween kind. Two abandoned properties on New Suffolk Avenue (580 and 1120, if you're curious) have been sitting vacant long enough to attract vandals, squatters, and a whole lot of neighbor frustration.

The Southold Town Board is on it. They’ve held public hearings and pulled out Chapter 100 of the town code, which basically says: clean it up or we will. But here’s the catch—tracking down absentee owners isn’t exactly easy. Some cleanup has started, but with major structural issues still looming, the town’s now weighing its options…including breaking out the bulldozers. ($)

The North Fork might be known for its wine, but let’s not sleep on its salt-rimmed, lime-laced underdog: the margarita.

It’s bright, fresh, and definitely easy sipping, but if you like your tequila to punch back a little, this might feel more like a handshake. A solid pick for smooth marg fans, but the citrus-to-tequila balance could use a little extra spice. Still, you can’t be mad at a marg that looks this good.
