New Era in Mattituck 🍖

Tucker’s Taproom and Smokehouse (formerly Meats Meat BBQ Smokehouse/Tucker’s Taproom) in Mattituck has rebranded under a new partnership between general manager Chris Hujber and Patrick Donagher of Alewife Brewing. Pitmaster Larry Mondello has moved on to focus on catering.

Chris had a scary summer (a heart attack in June). While he recovered, Patrick, his wife Roz, and the team rallied to keep the smoke rolling. Now they’re back with a new vision and a whole lot of hospitality.

Menu Updates: Expanded options plus a late night bar menu until 10 PM on weekends. Bonus: North Fork Big Oysters grilling oysters on site on weekends.

The Vibe: Family-friendly, picnic tables, kids running around, dogs welcome. Live music Friday-Sunday afternoons.

Snail of Approval 🐌

The East End’s favorite little mollusk is making big moves. The Snail of Approval, Slow Food East End’s badge of good, clean, fair food, isn’t just for farm-to-table restaurants anymore. It’s popping up in some surprising spots: hospitals, food pantries, community gardens, diners, even a chocolate shop.

Winners must check at least two boxes: sustainability, sourcing, cultural connection, staff support, community impact, or business values. Think fair kitchens, long-time staff, and strong ties to local farms & vineyards.

The Snail is less about fine dining, more about fairness and flavor rooted in community.

Dog of The Week

Don’t let the muscles fool you, Courage is all heart. This sweet mixed Pitty is the definition of “gentle giant,” a loyal companion who thrives in the comfort of a loving home. While he may be a little timid at first, patience pays off, Courage quickly becomes affectionate, cuddly, and devoted.

He’s house-trained, well-mannered indoors, and happiest hanging out by your side whether you’re watching TV, going for a car ride, or just relaxing together. Courage isn’t reactive to strangers or other dogs, keeps quiet without excessive barking, and has an easygoing nature that makes him a dream to live with. He loves playtime, balls, squeaky toys, and tug ropes are his favorites and settles down just as happily for a calm night’s sleep.

Strong but manageable with a harness, Courage is the perfect mix of playful and gentle. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will reward your patience with endless love, Courage is ready to meet you.

Courage is waiting at the Southold location. Call 631-765-1811 ext. 1 before someone else scoops up this pup.

Trivia Time 🧠

Your brain deserves more than scrolling and skimming. Each week we’ll hit you with one question designed to make you pause, scratch your head, and maybe argue with whoever’s sitting next to you. Think of it as a quick mental pit stop: a chance to flex your random knowledge, test your memory, or finally use that obscure fact you learned in 7th grade.

According to the 2020 U.S. Census, which state had the lowest population?

Last Week’s Results

Last week we put your local history knowledge to the test with: Everyone knows Southold holds the crown as the oldest English town on Long Island (June 1640) but which town came right after, also founded in 1640?

48% of you nailed it with the correct answer of Southampton

Sink or Sail 📦

The 2025 Cardboard Boat Regatta is back and registration is officially OPEN! This legendary showdown at the East End Maritime Festival dares captains to build it, race it, and (hopefully) float it.

This year, the fun is brewed up with Greenport Harbor Brewing Co. and anchored by the East End Seaport Museum.

So, will your masterpiece glide like a swan… or sink like soggy cardboard? Only one way to find out. Grab your duct tape, call your crew, and start designing. It’s part race, part spectacle, and 100% the highlight of the festival.

Nothing in this section is sponsored. They’re just fun things you need to know. I’ll always let you know when something is sponsored
