⚡ North Fork’s Power Woes—Crash, Outage, Recovery! 🚨
It was lights out on the East End after a box truck crash on Route 48 took down a transmission pole, leaving 30,000+ homes in the dark from Peconic to Orient. 🚦 Even Greenport fired up its backup generators ! PSEG crews worked fast, restoring power by 2:36 p.m. The driver had minor injuries, and Route 48 remained detoured at Ackerly Pond Lane and Tucker’s Lane for most of the day. Stay safe and stay plugged in!
🌿 Bye-bye, invasive reeds!
Southold is doubling down on its fight against Phragmites australis (aka that pesky common reed) with a $79K grant extension from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. 🏞️✨ These reeds clog wetlands, mess with water flow, and push out native species, so the town is bringing in a hydro-rake (think: giant floating claw) to yank them out—no chemicals needed! Volunteers will help replant native greenery and spread the word on keeping Southold’s wetlands healthy. 💪🌱 It’s a big win for local wildlife and water quality! ($)
