🐕 A Veterinary Legend Who Changed the Game
Dr. Charles "Chuck" Mebus was a quiet hero whose work in veterinary science saved countless lives worldwide. His discovery of rotavirus and the link between intestinal viral infections and severe cattle diseases led to the creation of life-saving vaccines for both calves and humans.
After joining the Plum Island Animal Disease Center in 1977, Dr. Mebus became a key player in research on foreign animal diseases like African swine fever and foot-and-mouth disease, guiding critical efforts during an outbreak on the island.
But his influence wasn’t just in the lab—Dr. Mebus was also a mentor, always there to share his knowledge and inspire the next generation of scientists. His legacy lives on through his groundbreaking work and the lasting impact he had on his colleagues and the veterinary community. ($)
