Julia King to Perform for the Mets šŸŽ¶

Greenport’s own Julia King is stepping up to the mic at Citi Field on August 14 to sing the National Anthem before the New York Mets game. That’s right our hometown powerhouse will be belting out the Star-Spangled Banner for thousands of fans under the bright lights of Queens.

She’s been dreaming about this moment since she was 8, and now it’s happening. Or as Julia put it on Instagram: ā€œStill kind of in shock NGLā€

Catch her under the big-league spotlight, representing the North Fork like a rock star. Let’s go Julia!

Tuckers Lax Squad Rolls šŸ„

The Tuckers are heating up. The Mattituck/Greenport/Southold boys lacrosse team bumped their record to 3-1 after a dominant 14–3 win over Port Jeff — and that W came on the heels of a thriller-filled week: a 5–2 win at Riverhead, a 7–6 OT nail-biter at Bellport, and a one-goal heartbreaker vs. Elwood-John Glenn.

Head Coach Jeff Hauser credits the crew’s grit and chemistry, especially after rallying from a 10–5 fourth-quarter deficit in that Glenn matchup. Senior standouts Justin Fox and Shane Psaltis went off with four goals and three assists each, while Rafa Finnerty, Rocco Horton, Henry Blair, and Tate Foster kept the scoreboard busy.

Add in sharp ball movement and some slick strategy with the new 60-second shot clock, and this squad’s got momentum. ($)

Heart, Hustle & Healthcare 🩺

Two local teens are trading the East End for Duke University this summer — and no, it’s not for basketball. Gianna Miller and Genesis Fulford have scored spots in a prestigious pre-college medicine and healthcare program at Duke, thanks to over $8,950 raised by the Jamesport-based nonprofit, The Butterfly Effect Project.

The program (part of the National Student Leadership Conference) isn’t just textbooks and lectures — we’re talking surgical simulations, diagnostics, and even anatomy workshops. Miller’s already interned at Peconic Bay Medical Center and is racking up college credits in psych, bio, and neuroscience. Fulford’s on a fast track too, enrolled in a two-year medical assisting program with dreams of becoming a pediatric oncology PA.

Even after a major fundraiser was canceled due to racist threats, the community rallied, proving that hate has nothing on hometown support. Now these two future healthcare heroes are headed to Duke with big dreams and even bigger hearts. ($)
