Summer Tastes Better at Little Fish 🌅
There are certain foods that just taste better by the water.
Maybe it's the salt air. Maybe it's the extra hour of daylight. Or maybe it's the fact that once summer starts creeping in, nobody wants to be anywhere else.
At Little Fish, beachside season is fully on.
The outdoor tables are back in rhythm, live music drifts through the evening air, and the menu is made for long evenings by the Beach.
Start with local oysters topped with charred pineapple relish. Add an order of day boat catch ceviche with homemade tortilla chips. Then try not to fight over the last spicy tuna tartare taquito.
Add a cold drink, a few friends, and a sunset over the water, and you've got yourself a picture perfect day.
Summer hours have officially arrived:
• Lunch 7 Days a Week (12–3 PM)
• Dinner 7 Days a Week (5–9 PM)
• Friday & Saturday Dinner Extended Until 10 PM
More sunsets. More beach dinners. More reasons to grab a table outside.
Live music this week:
- Wednesday: Jon Divello 6-9 PM
- Friday: Erin Chase 6-9 PM
- Saturday: Jay Shepard 6-9 PM
Reservations are live at littlefishnofo.com or by calling (631) 765-8756
See you at the beach!

The Lowdown
Short Term Rental Plan 🏠
Town officials recently sent warning letters to roughly 200 homeowners advertising rentals without the required permit, part of a broader effort to bring rental properties into compliance as the town prepares a new permit system.
The proposal would redefine short term rentals as stays of less than 30 days and create a lottery system beginning in 2028 that would cap the number of permitted short term rentals in each hamlet. The initial proposal would limit permits to just 1% of the housing stock in each hamlet, a dramatic reduction from the nearly 1,000 short term rentals identified across town in recent years.
Before the program launches, town officials say they'll need to hire three additional employees dedicated to enforcement and administration. A public information session is expected this August, followed by formal hearings later this year.

Algae Bloom Warning Expands 🦠
Suffolk County health officials announced Wednesday that harmful blue-green algae blooms have been confirmed in both Marratooka Lake and Wolf Pit Pond in Mattituck. The findings come after similar blooms were recently detected in Laurel Lake and Merrits Pond.
The blooms, caused by cyanobacteria, can create bright green or paint like scum on the water’s surface and may pose health risks to people and pets. Officials are advising residents to avoid recreation in affected waters and keep children and dogs away from the shoreline. ($)

The North Fork United Sharks didn't start with travel tournaments, professional trainers, or championship aspirations. They started at a seventh birthday party.
When Mattituck's JB Browder was asked what he wanted for his birthday, his answer was simple: soccer. The boys spent hours playing in the yard, largely ignoring the bounce house, and their parents decided there was no reason to wait for the next birthday party to do it again.
Every Saturday that summer, the same group showed up to play. No coaches. No whistles. Just neighborhood kids picking teams, arguing over goals, and playing until they were exhausted.
Three years later, many of those same boys are Premier East Division champions in the Long Island Junior Soccer League.
The Sharks' rise is also a snapshot of North Fork United's growth. What started as a small parent run club in 2012 has expanded into a program serving roughly 500 kids from Riverhead to Orient and Shelter Island, with more than 230 travel players and another 260 participating in developmental and recreational programs.

The Rescue Vixens 🗓️
If Modern Snack Bar looked like the set of a 1950s postcard earlier this summer, there was a good reason.
The crowd of vintage cars, pinup fashions, and photographers gathering around the restaurant's iconic neon sign was part of the annual Rescue Vixens calendar shoot, a fundraiser supporting North Fork Country Kids Animal Rescue.
Founded by longtime animal advocate Virginia Scudder, the Rescue Vixens blend a love of midcentury style with a very real rescue mission. While the vintage photos and pinup contests grab attention, the group spends the rest of the year helping homeless, neglected, and feral animals across Long Island.
