Ready, Set, Go!

Sail Into Something Memorable ⛵️

Some plans just feel a little more cinematic than others.

Like climbing aboard a luxury sailing ketch in Greenport Harbor, uncorking a bottle from your favorite North Fork vineyard, and spending the next few hours gliding past waterfront homes, quiet coves, and open Bay views while the rest of the world slows down for a minute.

That’s the Sail NoFo experience.

Operating out of historic Greenport Harbor, Sail NoFo offers private sailing adventures ranging from afternoon cruises to peaceful sunset sails, all led by a trained and licensed crew that make the entire experience feel both elevated and completely laid back.

There’s locally sourced light fare, plenty of room to unwind, and yes, the kind of sunset views that make everyone suddenly stop talking for a second.

And if you’ve ever wanted to do more than just sit back with a drink in hand, Sail NoFo also offers hands-on sailing instruction for those looking to sharpen their skills beyond the Bay.

For more information or to book a cruise, visit SailNoFo.com or call 631.906.8937.

Parking Push Back 🚗

Greenport officials are looking at possible parking passes for village residents and downtown employees after pushback over the village’s expanded paid parking program.

At a meeting Thursday, trustees discussed several potential changes, including resident permits, employee passes, adjusted enforcement hours, and even the possibility of free short term parking for quick coffee runs or takeout pickups.

One of the biggest complaints? Residents paying the same $3.50 per hour rate as visitors to park near their own homes.

Tthe village still hasn’t hired the two part time parking enforcement officers approved in this year’s budget. For now, Southold Town police are handling enforcement while village officials continue interviewing candidates.

Village leaders say the goal of paid parking is to improve turnover in busy areas, ease congestion during peak season, and create a funding source for future road and sidewalk projects. Some business owners, however, worry higher parking costs could discourage shoppers and future business investment downtown. ($)

Books & Wine 📚

A traditional book club meets in a living room. Wine ‘Round the North Fork meets at vineyards.

Launched earlier this year by Jocelyn Maningo Kaleita, owner of A Book Place in Riverhead, the monthly series pairs bestselling authors, lively book discussions, and wine tastings into one afternoon.

The latest gathering brought readers to Raphael Vineyards, where author Christina Baker Kline discussed her new novel The Foursome alongside fellow author John Searles. Guests enjoyed a wine flight, light bites, a Q&A, and plenty of conversation that went well beyond the pages of the book.

Next up: John Searles discussing his latest novel Single Girls at Raphael Vineyards on July 19.

Peconic Landing CEO Honored 🏆

Peconic Landing President and CEO Robert Syron just added another accolade to what has already been a standout year.

LeadingAge New York, which represents hundreds of aging services providers across the state, awarded Syron its highest honor: the Lawrence E. Larson Memorial Award of Honor. The recognition celebrates leaders who have made lasting contributions to aging services through vision, leadership, and service.

Syron has led Peconic Landing since 2003, helping transform the Greenport community into one of the nation’s most respected senior living organizations. During his tenure, Peconic Landing expanded healthcare offerings, launched its Center for Well Being partnership with Stony Brook Medicine, and earned national recognition for wellness and healthcare excellence.

The award follows another major recognition earlier this year, when Syron was named one of the top five wellness executives in North America.

Recipe for Success 🍽️

If you've ever felt unusually welcomed at aMano, A Lure, or Southold Social, that's no accident.

A new profile takes a closer look at restaurateur Adam Lovett, the man behind several of the North Fork's most popular dining destinations, and reveals that his greatest strength may not be what's coming out of the kitchen.

Lovett's path to restaurant ownership started young, washing dishes and bussing tables in Queens before working his way through fine dining restaurants, wine sales, and management positions. Along the way, he picked up lessons on hospitality, leadership, and, perhaps most importantly, how to make people feel at home.
