The Lowdown
Jean Cochran Park š§
Southold Town is lining up a big round of improvements for Jean Cochran Park in Peconic, and it all starts with a basic amenity the park has never had: a bathroom.
The town is applying for up to $900,000 in state funding through New Yorkās Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act, with a 10% town match that could bring the total investment to around $1 million. The proposal includes adding a long overdue restroom, expanding and improving parking, installing outdoor fitness equipment, and potentially removing the parkās aging hockey rink.
Parking improvements would address ongoing safety and drainage issues, with plans to pave and expand the lot to reduce flooding after heavy rain.
The future of the hockey rink is also on the table. Officials say itās in poor condition and that rebuilding it from the ground up would be costly with limited demand. Removing it would allow the town to rethink how that space is used. ($)

A Facial for Your Scalp š
For Scarlett Rose Mindful Beauty owner Annie Kim, healthy hair doesnāt start with a cut or color, it starts at the scalp.
After more than a decade running salon and spa locations across the East End, Kim is introducing a new kind of self care to the North and South Forks with Head Spa K, the first Korean style head spa experience on the East End of Long Island. The concept blends relaxation with real results, offering clients a deeply calming treatment thatās also designed to support long-term scalp and hair health.
Kim traveled to South Korea to become a certified head spa coordinator before opening Head Spa K, which debuted in Greenport in December 2024. The treatments draw from Japanese mind-body wellness traditions and Korean clinical scalp therapies.
Often described as a āfacial for the scalp,ā each service begins with a consultation, then moves into head, neck, and shoulder massage, followed by deep cleansing, exfoliation, steaming, and targeted scalp treatments.

Sylvester Manorās New Farm Manager š§āš¾
A new chapter is taking shape at Sylvester Manor Educational Farm. Matt Celona officially stepped into the role of farm manager on January 17, and while the growing season is still months away, thereās plenty happening behind the scenes. From maintenance and animal care to mapping out crop plans for the year ahead, Celona is already laying the groundwork for the farmās next season.
With more than 25 years of experience, Celona brings a deep understanding of sustainable agriculture to the historic Shelter Island property. His journey into farming began unexpectedly while studying English literature at the University of Iowa, when volunteering at a goat dairy farm sparked a lifelong commitment to working the land.
Since then, heās managed farms across the country, most recently overseeing gardens, orchards, sheep, and chickens at the DāArtagnan Farms Foundation in Goshen, New York.

Animal of The Week
Meet Casey š¾
Meet Casey, a senior terrier mix who makes easy companionship feel effortless. Medium sized and wonderfully low key, Casey settles in like sheās been part of the family forever. Thereās no nervous energy and no adjustment period, just calm, relaxed company from day one.
Casey is completely housebroken and does her business easily outdoors. She is a joy to walk with no pulling and no fuss. She is sweet and gentle with everyone she meets, including strangers, children, and other dogs, and she is not reactive. At home, she is quiet without excessive barking, sleeps calmly through the night, and has great manners. She is not a big eater and does not beg during meals.
She also loves car rides, is easy and relaxed in the car, and does just fine with stairs.
Casey deserves a loving home where she can spend her golden years being the kind of low maintenance, loving companion who makes everyday life better.
