The Lowdown
šŗšø New Name, Lasting Honor
Big news, SoutholdāTown Beach just got a new name, and itās one with serious meaning. Say hello to Lt. George Robert Sullivan Beach, a tribute to a hometown hero who dedicated his life to service.
Lt. Sullivan was a decorated Marine who earned the Navy Cross for his bravery in Vietnam. Even after losing his leg in combat, he came home and kept servingāsix terms as Southoldās tax receiver and over 40 years with the American Legion.
Now, every time you hit the beach, youāll be stepping onto a piece of local history, honoring a man who gave everything for his town and his country.($)
š Mattituck Takes the Crown
The Mattituck Boys Varsity Basketball team took down Port Jefferson 58-50 to snag their first county championship in 13 years!
The Tuckers brought the heat with fierce defense and clutch shots, locking in the win as fans went wild. The team celebrated with family and friends on the court, trophy in hand and smiles all around.
After over a decade, the title is finally back where it belongs ā in Mattituck. Letās go, Tuckers!
šØ Southold Project Shuffle
Southold is switching gears on local projects thanks to some federal funding curveballs. The plan to upgrade the Senior Center bathrooms? On pause. Instead, $199K is going toward a generator for the Town Annex Building after a recent power outage made the need crystal clear. Wanna weigh in? Thereās a public hearing on March 18 at 7 p.m.
Meanwhile, a project to cut stormwater runoff into Goose Creek is in limbo as federal support wavers ā and itās not just this project feeling the pinch. Programs for youth services, law enforcement, and community improvements might also be at risk. Stay tuned, Southold! ($)
šø Southoldās Main Road just got a floral refresh
