Macari Makes It Rain Medals 🥇🥈🥉

Macari Vineyards just brought the heat to Texas, winning three medals at the prestigious TexSom wine competition, one of the biggest wine stages in the country.

They earned:
🥇Gold for their 2022 Lifeforce Cabernet Franc
🥈 Silver for their 2022 Dos Aguas Red Blend
🥉 Bronze for their 2021 Alexandra Red Blend

Considering TexSom is judged by Master Sommeliers and Masters of Wine, this win puts Macari—and the North Fork—on the national vino map. Cheers to that!

Tinker Time 🔨🎨

Peconic Community School is bringing the excitement to Cutchogue with its 6th Annual Maker Fair on Saturday, April 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It’s part science fair, part arts fest, and 100% hands-on fun. Think coding, pottery, legos, woodworking, and over 30 local Makers ready to spark curiosity in kids (and grown-ups) of all ages.

Expect puppet shows, magic, interactive drumming, and a giant cardboard building station. Plus, PCS students are showing off their own Cardboard Arcade. Food vendors will be dishing out tasty bites, and Co-Founder Liz Casey is leading tours of the brand-new campus. Suggested donation: $15 per family. More Info

Battery Storage on Hold 🔋

Southold is hitting the pause button—again—on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The Town Board just unanimously approved a 12-month extension of its moratorium, giving them until April 2026 to finalize rules for where and how these facilities can safely operate.

The BESS Task Force has been digging into the details for over a year, and their draft recommendations (plus ongoing state safety reviews) will help shape the town’s game plan. The goal? Create zoning regs that keep both safety and sustainability in mind.

To be clear: This moratorium only applies to BESS projects. Everything else in town development-wise is still moving forward. ($)

Southold’s Hitting Pause Again On Hotels

The Town Board is looking to extend its moratorium on new hotel, motel, and resort developments for another 12 months. The current pause ends June 18, but a public hearing is set for May 28 at 4:30 PM to discuss keeping it going. The goal? More time to finalize zoning updates that keep development in check with the town’s long-term vision, environment, and community vibe.

And if you’re wondering what’s waiting in the wings: 9025 Main St LLC is hoping to build an 81-room hotel in Mattituck with a restaurant, catering hall, and workforce housing. That proposal gets its own spotlight at a separate hearing on May 13 at 7 PM. ($)

Foodie Friday 🍽

The other weekend, we made it to Little Fish for their re-opening, and honestly, we're still thinking about it. Little Fish is proof that great things come in small, flavor-packed packages. It’s the kind of spot that balances North Fork charm with bold culinary confidence.

Lets talk highlights:

🐟 Spicy Tuna Tartare Taquitos aren’t just a good idea—they’re genius. Crispy, bite-sized shells hold a generous scoop of fresh, spicy tuna, topped with just the right zing of citrus and heat. One bite in, and you'll start calculating how many more you can order without looking unhinged. (Spoiler: there is no wrong number.)

🥬 Charred Lemon Caesar Salad a dish that somehow manages to steal the spotlight from everything else on the table. The charred lemon adds a smoky brightness that cuts through the creamy dressing like a dream. Toss in the croissant croutons and you’ve got what might just be the best Caesar salad on the North Fork. Yes, we said it.

🎣 Swordfish Milanese is a showstopper. Lightly breaded, golden, and crispy on the outside, tender and juicy inside. Served seaweed butter, local greens, pickled onions and feta. It’s the kind of dish that makes you forget swordfish ever had a reputation for being boring.

🌮 Blackened Fish Tacos. These beauties are a Little Fish fan favorite for a reason. Perfectly seasoned, beautifully blackened, and topped with slaw and mango salsa that’ll have you chasing every last bite. If you don’t get at least one order for the table, someone’s going to be sad.

If you haven’t been yet, it’s time to make a reservation.
