Smile for the Body Cam šŸ“ø

Southold Town Police are getting some new gear—body-worn cameras (BWCs) are on the way! Officer training kicked off on March 17 and should wrap up by early April.

But wait, there’s more—this is part of a larger tech upgrade. The department is also rolling out 17 in-car cameras with license plate readers, seven computer tablets for field reporting, and even a drone for search and rescue missions.

The Southold Town Board made it official on February 25, laying down the rules for BWC use to keep everything above board. The goal? More transparency, better accountability, and a boost in public trust. ($)

Fighting Cognitive Decline šŸ§ šŸ’Ŗ

Peconic Landing is making waves in dementia care with a new pilot program—SAIDO LearningĀ®. Forget meds—this non-drug approach, developed in Japan, uses simple math, writing, and reading aloud to keep minds sharp and engaged.

Right now, a pilot group at Harbor South (the community’s memory support neighborhood) is testing it out, and the early results? Super promising. Peconic Landing plans to roll it out even further, with independent living residents getting a chance to jump in as volunteers.

Harbor South already has a big rep for top-tier dementia care, it’s the only memory care neighborhood in NY with a Distinguished Provider designation. Now, with SAIDO in the mix, they’re doubling down on their mission to keep residents connected, engaged, and thriving.

So far, families, staff, and residents are loving it—and it looks like Peconic Landing just raised the bar again.

Dog of the week

Meet Kiara šŸ¾

Kiara is a 2-year-old Anatolian Shepherd with a heart as big as her personality. She may come off as a little serious at first, but don’t let that fool you—she’s a secret goofball who loves her stuffed toys and soaking up affection from her trusted humans.

While she takes her time warming up to new people, once you’re in her circle, you’ve got a loyal, loving companion for life. She enjoys leisurely walks, stopping to take in the scenery (and sneak in some extra pets along the way!). Kiara also gets along well with other dogs and would thrive in a home that understands her reserved yet affectionate nature.

She’s not the biggest fan of car rides, but on solid ground, she’s an incredible pup ready for a fresh start. If you’re looking for a gentle soul with a silly streak, Kiara just might be your perfect match! More Info
