Greenport Rescue Squad Loses ALS Status š
Greenportās volunteer rescue squad can no longer provide the highest level of pre-hospital emergency care after the state revoked its Advanced Life Support (ALS) authorization.
That means members of the Greenport Fire Department Rescue Squad are no longer permitted to perform certain advanced medical procedures during emergency calls, including administering medications, starting IV lines and performing advanced airway or cardiac interventions.
Suffolk County Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services Commissioner Rudolph Sunderman said the decision was made by the New York State Department of Health, which oversees emergency medical services statewide. Officials did not provide a reason for the revocation. ($)

New Board Chair š
Peconic Landing has a new person at the head of the board table.
The Greenport based nonprofit life plan community announced that Peconic resident Eileen T. McGuire has been appointed chair of its Board of Trustees, effective January 2026. McGuire has served on the board since 2018 and has been active on several key committees, including finance, marketing and building.
In her new role, McGuire will help guide the strategic direction of the organization, working with fellow trustees to oversee budgets, policies and long term initiatives that support Peconic Landingās mission.
She has also been active in the local nonprofit community, serving on the board of the Southold Historical Museum and volunteering with organizations including CAST, Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital, East End Arts Council and the Wounded Warrior Project.

Raising Resilient Kids š«
In a world that can feel increasingly stressful, for adults and kids alike, many parents are asking the same question: how do we raise children who are confident, resilient and able to handle lifeās inevitable bumps in the road?
Two North Fork professionals who work closely with children say the answer isnāt about shielding kids from challenges, itās about helping them learn how to navigate them.
Psychotherapist August Thilberg, who specializes in children and adolescents, says confidence plays a critical role in a childās mental well-being. Kids with stronger confidence tend to have higher self-esteem, lower levels of anxiety and a greater ability to express themselves and build healthy relationships.
But in recent years, Thilberg says sheās seen a shift. Children are reporting higher levels of anxiety while confidence appears to be declining, something she partly attributes to a well intentioned parenting trend of trying to prevent kids from experiencing failure.
When children are allowed to encounter setbacks and work through them, she explains, they begin to build resilience and trust in their own abilities.
Licensed Master Social Worker Stephanie Pincar Coleman, who works as an elementary school social worker, says the increase in anxiety among children also reflects broader societal pressures. Financial stress on families, reduced social support systems and the growing influence of technology and social media all play a role.
Both experts agree that building confidence doesnāt happen overnight. It comes through patience, encouragement and helping children recognize their own strengths.

Local Spotlight
Tiny Farmers š±
Thereās something special about watching kids discover where their food actually comes from, especially when it involves a little dirt under their fingernails.
This summer, Oregon Road Organics is inviting the next generation of growers to the farm with Tiny Farmers, a hands-on childrenās educational program designed to connect kids with the land, their food, and the people who grow it. The program runs every Thursday from 9 AM to 12 PM throughout July and August, giving young farmers a chance to spend their mornings learning directly in the fields.
Designed for children ages 4ā8, each session focuses on a different part of the farming process, from planting and soil health to harvesting, composting, pollinators, and more. Kids wonāt just hear about farming, theyāll experience it firsthand, helping out around the farm while learning how food is grown and cared for along the way.
At its heart, the program is about building a real connection between children and the food on their plate. By getting involved in the process, Tiny Farmers helps kids understand the work behind growing fresh food and gives them a sense of pride in being part of it.
