Fiocha Pizza Now Open
🍕 New Pizza Alert in Mattituck! Fiocha Pizza is officially open, bringing wood-fired deliciousness to Middle Road. Owner Nabeel Massoud—who you might know from Palmer & Paumanok Vineyards—has transformed the old Pizza Rita spot with a 6,000-pound oven straight from Naples that cooks pies in 60 seconds. Expect personal-sized red & white pizzas, fresh salads, and even a Nutella dessert pie coming soon. Open Thursday–Monday (for now). 🍕🔥
Southold Laws Changing?
📢 Southold Law Updates—Your Voice Needed! Town officials are considering changes to local laws, including adjustable fees for shellfish permits, peddler licenses, and yard sales. Right now, any fee change means rewriting the law—this tweak would give the Town Board more flexibility. No immediate fee hikes, just a smoother process. Mark your calendars Public hearings are set for Feb. 25 & March 4 at Town Hall. Got opinions? Now’s the time to speak up! 🗣️ ($)
🏀 Sibling Power = Playoff Dreams for Mattituck Hoops 🏀
Meet Andrew & Claire McKenzie—Mattituck High’s dynamic brother-sister duo lighting up the basketball court. Claire, a 5’11” scoring machine, is ranked 10th in Suffolk County and just dropped a career-high 29 points. Andrew, a defensive beast, is locking it down in the paint. Both teams are gearing up for the Class B playoffs, with the girls' squad facing Pierson on Feb. 24 and the boys taking on Port Jefferson March 2. Can the McKenzies bring home championships? ($)
🌿 Major Win for Conservation in Southold! 🌿
The Peconic Land Trust & NYS DEC just locked in a permanent conservation easement for the Harold A. Reese Preserve, protecting 29.8 acres of rare oak-hickory forest. This means no future development, safeguarding wildlife, water quality, and scenic trails forever. The land, part of the Peconic Bay Estuary watershed, helps filter drinking water and supports species like screech owls, red foxes, and box turtles. A huge step in keeping the North Fork green! 🌱 ($)
More Snow This Week!?
🌬️ Cold temps & a snowy surprise? Long Island’s getting hit with frigid weather for the next couple of days, with highs struggling to break 30°F and wind chills dipping into the single digits. ❄️ Thursday brings a chance of light snow, but don’t expect a blizzard—a coating to an inch max. Bundle up, folks!
