Seafood Summit 🐟

The New York Seafood Summit marked its 10th year, drawing a packed room of fishermen, oyster growers, chefs, scientists and policymakers, all focused on the future of New York’s seafood industry.

Organized by New York Sea Grant and Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Marine Program, the summit was designed to bring different corners of the industry into the same room, and get them actually talking to each other.

Oyster growers flagged damage from a brutal winter, while commercial fishing leaders pointed to rising fuel costs and ongoing regulatory challenges.

State and county officials showed up too, signaling support, including conversations around funding opportunities, licensing, and even potential fuel tax relief for fishing operations.

There was also a look ahead. A North Shore expansion of the Long Island Seafood Cuisine Trail is set to launch this spring, stretching from Northport to Greenport and highlighting local seafood spots.

Mattituck Freshman Debut Novel 📖

Maddie Peterson has lived in more ZIP codes than most adults, but somewhere between RV road trips and school changes, she found her constant: writing.

Now a freshman at Mattituck High School, Maddie is officially a published author. Her debut novel, She Had Faith, dropped March 30 after nearly two years of work.

The story follows Maeve, a young girl growing up and figuring herself out, with each chapter tracking a different grade level. While faith is part of the title, Maddie’s take is broader, more about self-belief than religion, and the idea that identity isn’t tied to where you land.

It’s a theme she knows firsthand. Maddie’s lived in Arizona, Florida, Indiana, Idaho, Colorado and now the North Fork, a constant reset that shaped both her perspective and her storytelling. ($)

Romance & Renovation 📖

North Fork summer, a rundown beach house, and a little HGTV energy, that’s the setup for Jennifer O’Brien’s debut novel, The Summer I Found You.

O’Brien, known for her home design brand City Farmhouse, trades mood boards for manuscripts with a story centered on Dahlia Newberry, a newly single mom who heads back to her family’s North Fork fixer upper with plans to sell, quickly.

Only problem: the house is in rough shape, the timeline is tight, and life has other ideas.

Enter Noah, the charming neighbor who just happens to be a reality TV home renovation star. He helps bring the house and Dahlia back to life, as sparks start to fly.

But it’s not just a love story. A letter from Dahlia’s late aunt sets off a deeper unraveling, one that leads to buried clues, long held family secrets, and a mystery stretching back generations.
