Sunset Hours at Little Fish 🌅

Memorial Day Weekend has a way of reminding everyone the same thing: summer is officially starting to creep in.

The sunsets stretch a little longer, dinner somehow turns into another round, and suddenly everyone’s looking for a table outside.

At Little Fish, that means beachside season is fully on.

The outdoor tables are back in rhythm, and live music drifts through the evening air.

And honestly? The Frito Misto della Casa feels made for exactly this kind of setting, crispy seafood, a cold drink, a saltwater breeze, and a sunset that really completes the picture.

Little Fish is now:

  • Open for Dinner 7 Days a Week (5–9 PM)

  • Lunch + Brunch Weekends (12–3 PM) featuring a full lunch menu alongside signature brunch favorites

Live music this week:
- Friday: Rob Europe 6-9 PM
- Saturday: Frank Palmeri 6-9 PM

Reservations are live at littlefishnofo.com or by calling (631) 765-8756

Patriot Award 🇺🇸

At Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital, supporting employees who serve in the military is part of the culture.

Vice President of Nursing Operations Carrie Grattan was recently presented with the Patriot Award from the U.S. Department of Defense’s Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve program for her support of Guard and Reserve members working at the hospital.

The recognition came during a ceremony led by retired Air Force Chief Master Sergeant Joseph Kruk, who highlighted Grattan’s leadership and willingness to accommodate military schedules, deployments and training commitments.

The nomination came from ICU Nursing Director David Agbara, who currently serves in the United States Air Force Reserve and was unable to attend because of military activation.

Eagle Rescue 🦅

A male bald eagle was spotted hopping through yards in Mattituck Thursday morning, unable to properly fly. Southold Town Police officers Christopher Salmon and Darren Hinderliter quickly realized the federally protected bird was injured after it repeatedly tried and failed to take off.

Soon, what started as a routine animal call turned into a full community operation.

Wildlife experts Jennifer Murray of Turtleback Conservation Center and Heidi Lopez joined the rescue effort, carefully corralling the eagle through brambles and backyards.

After finally securing the bird with a blanket and makeshift crate built from a plastic bin and car floor mat, volunteers transported the eagle to Sweetbriar Nature Center for treatment.

Rescuers realized the eagle had a mate and two eaglets waiting back at the nest for dinner. Wildlife officials suggested feeding them dead rats temporarily, but since nobody happened to have spare rats in their pockets, Jennifer Murray pivoted to a more local solution: fish.

A quick phone call to Braun Seafood Co. resulted in six donated flounder fillets, which the Mattituck Fire Department attempted to deliver to the nest using a ladder truck.

Meanwhile, the eagle recovered surprisingly quickly at the rehab center and was returned to Mattituck that same evening. ($)

Party Animal’s New Home 🎈

There’s now one more reason to stop on Love Lane. Party Animal, the colorful North Fork party supply shop founded by Amanda Giuliano and Katherine Laureano-Cilio, has officially relocated from Feather Hill in Southold to a new storefront in the heart of Mattituck.

The new shop opened on Friday, bringing balloons, themed décor and enough party supplies to survive an entire elementary school birthday season.

Inspired by the founders’ backgrounds in interior design, including Giuliano’s work as principal designer at Nicolette’s for the Home, the store was created to solve the problem of having to leave the North Fork for decent party supplies.
