The Birds Are Back ⚾️

For the first time in 12 years, the North Fork Ospreys are flying back into the HCBL Championship Series, and they made sure everyone heard them coming.

After Friday’s semifinal game against the Sag Harbor Whalers got rained out in the second inning (with North Fork already up 5–0), the Ospreys came back Saturday and didn’t miss a beat. Final score? 14–1.

Thomas Matuszewski was on fire, going 3-for-5 with 7 RBIs, a new HCBL postseason single-game record. Pitching held steady too, with Pete DeMaio and Matt Guido keeping the Whalers at bay.

Now it’s on to the big show. The Ospreys will take on the South Shore Clippers in Game 1 of the Championship Series, Today at 7 PM at Cochran Park in Peconic.

It’s been a long time coming. Let’s go, Ospreys!

Beach Day Turns Baywatch 🌊

Monday afternoon (July, 21) at New Suffolk Beach was shaping up to be peak summer vibes, 85 degrees, and a light breeze. That is… until it turned into a rescue mission.

Denise Kord and her 23-year-old daughter, Laura, were cruising the coastline on a paddleboard. 16-year-old Liam followed close behind in a solo kayak. But the current had other plans, sweeping Liam east, flipping the kayak, and turning beach day into Baywatch (minus the slow-mo running).

Luckily, two lifeguards were on duty: Jaden Olsen, and his younger brother Kyan, Jaden helped the family to safety while Kyan retrieved the gear.

Shoutout to Jaden and Kyan for keeping the beach safe! ($)

Cab Franc Forward 🍷

Welcome to Cab Franc Forward, a grassroots wine movement uniting vineyards from Long Island, the Hudson Valley, and the Finger Lakes around one juicy goal: make Cab Franc the face of New York wine. It’s like the Avengers of viticulture, but with fewer capes and more corkscrews.

Why Cab Franc? It grows like a dream across the state, handles New York’s wild weather, and delivers wine that’s elegant, earthy, and plays well with anything from pizza to portobellos.

Historically, New York wine has had an identity crisis, the Finger Lakes were all about Riesling, Long Island leaned Merlot and rosé. But Cab Franc? It’s becoming the common thread.
