šŸ Out of Business, Lost Our Lease

Peconic Star Fleet, Country Fair, North Fork Going Wild

Together With

Good Morning, North Fork! If emails could give high fives, this one would.

In today’s North Fork Buzz:

  • Peconic Star Fleet

  • Country Fair

  • North Fork Going Wild

Ready, Set, Go!

Fish. Feast. Fundraise. šŸŽ£šŸ¦ž

The ELIH Foundation’s Annual Fall Fishing Showdown is back, and this year’s shaping up to be a reel good time.

Here’s the game plan:
🧢Captain’s Huddle – Friday, Sept. 26 | 5 PM | Port of Egypt Marine
šŸŽ£ Tournament – Lines in Friday 6 PM | Lines out Saturday 5 PM
šŸ† Prizes – Top 3 Stripers, Top 3 Blues + trophies for biggest Sea Bass & Porgy
šŸ¦ž Lobster Bash – Saturday, Sept. 27 | 5:30 PM | Port of Egypt Marine

Even if you don’t fish, you can still party. The Lobster Bash is open to all. Lobster dinners from Southold Fish Market, cold pours from Greenport Harbor Brewing Co., sips from Peconic Bay Vineyards, and plenty of dockside vibes.

This is one of those weekends where everyone wins, the fishers, the eaters, and your community hospital.

Peconic Star Fleet Sails Its Last Trip ā›“ļø

After more than 40 years of hauling in stripers, porgies, sea bass, and memories, Peconic Star Fleet has officially called it a day. The company quietly posted Out of business, lost our lease on its website.

Greenport Mayor Kevin Stuessi says the village would’ve happily renewed the leases and was caught off guard by the decision.

The last trip set sail Sunday, closing the book on one of Greenport’s longest-running fishing traditions. ($)

Hallockville’s Country Fair 🚜

Hallockville Museum Farm is turning into a country playground for the 44th Annual Country Fair. Expect live music, tractor pulls (yes, even a kids’ pull), pony rides, a petting zoo, potato digging, crafts, and all the old-fashioned games you can handle.

Saturday brings a puppet-making workshop with Goat on a Boat Theatre and a performance by the Islip Horseman’s Association. Sunday’s star? Picasso the Painting Dog, plus storytime with his owner, author Yvonne Dagger.

This fair isn’t just fun, it’s about keeping the North Fork’s farming roots alive for the next generation.

The North Fork Is Going Wild 🌿

Last weekend, secret gardens across the North Fork opened their gates, and what visitors found wasn’t manicured lawns but meadows buzzing with bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.

Rewild North Fork and the Southold-Peconic Civic Association hosted a tour of native plant gardens that are quietly reshaping the East End. Think wildflowers, grasses, and shrubs that thrive without irrigation or chemicals, and help save pollinators while they’re at it.

Less mowing, more growing, native gardens bring beauty and biodiversity back to the block.

Dog of The Week

Meet Tucker šŸ¾

Tucker is a 5-month-old, 20-lb bundle of joy who’s equal parts smart, sweet, and snuggly. This little guy has already nailed crate training and housebreaking and can’t wait to keep learning new tricks to impress his future family.

He’s the definition of a good boy, playful but polite, full of tail wags, and always ready for an adventure or a cozy cuddle session. Tucker gets along with everyone, cats, dogs, and kids. He would be the perfect sidekick for hikes, beach walks, or just hanging on the couch.

If you’ve been waiting for a pup who will love you endlessly and make you laugh every single day, Tucker is ready to make your home complete.

Apply to adopt Tucker through Last Chance Animal Rescue and let the happily-ever-after begin.

Trivia Time 🧠

Your brain deserves more than scrolling and skimming. Each week we’ll hit you with one question designed to make you pause, scratch your head, and maybe argue with whoever’s sitting next to you. Think of it as a quick mental pit stop: a chance to flex your random knowledge, test your memory, or finally use that obscure fact you learned in 7th grade.

Last Week’s Results

Last week we asked: What was the highest-grossing movie of the 1980s?

Answer: E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial

54% of you nailed it, the rest clearly didn’t take E.T.’s call.

Step Into the Woods 🌲

North Fork Paradise – ART is turning the Barn at Skunk Lane into a fairytale. On Saturday, September 20, Lin Buckfield and Karine Laval return with Woodlands, their follow-up to last year’s hit Cosmos and Chimeras.

Buckfield fills the barn with her sculptural ā€œChimeraā€ creatures, part myth, part forest mischief, while Laval turns her own North Fork garden into a mirror-filled dreamscape that bends light and blurs reality.

Together, they’ve built a space where gardens meet enchanted forests and you half expect to see a fox slip past in the shadows. It’s part art show, part portal to somewhere else.

On View:
September 20 (4–7 PM) & 21 (12–4 PM) and by appointment until October 5

Opening Reception:
Saturday, September 20 | 4–7 PM
