The Lowdown

Sophomore Star Power šŸ€

Don’t let the roster fool you, Mattituck basketball isn’t ā€œyoung,ā€ they’re hungry. The Tuckers might be starting a trio of sophomores, but these aren’t wide-eyed newbies. Connor Searl, Antonio Sparacio, and Oakley Carr-Smith are already battle-tested from last year’s run to the Long Island championship.

Backing them up are seniors Tyler Brown, Michael Buckley, and Trey Hansen, bringing size, grit, and that classic Mattituck toughness.

The goal? Simple. Run it back. ($)

Oyster Superpowers 🦪

They may look like rocks, but oysters are local superheroes. Beneath the surface, native oysters are quietly doing the heavy lifting, filtering water, keeping algae in check, and creating reef communities that support everything from eelgrass to fish, crabs, and shellfish.

After decades of overharvesting and pollution, oyster reefs nearly disappeared, and that’s where Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Back to the Bays comes in. By recycling restaurant shells, growing baby oysters in hatcheries, and planting them back into the water with the help of volunteers, they’re rebuilding habitat and reconnecting the community to the ecosystem.

Animal of The Week

Meet Dot šŸ¾

Meet Dot the good boy who proves different is beautiful. When Dot first arrived, he was a little unsure of the world. But with patience, consistency, and some loving obedience training, he’s blossomed into the most affectionate, soulful companion you could ever meet. Those striking eyes aren’t just for show, because Dot is deaf, he’s incredibly tuned into body language, movement, and visual cues. He locks in with his people, checks in often, and forms deep, meaningful connections. Loud noises like thunder, fireworks, or sirens? Not a bother to this guy.

Dot is a professional cuddler, a calm nighttime sleeper, and an easygoing car companion. He loves his meals, enjoys his walks with a harness, handles stairs like a champ, and politely signals when it’s time to go outside. He’s curious, friendly with both people and other dogs, and barks just enough to let you know something’s up.

Dot doesn’t need perfection, just patience, guidance, and someone who sees his deafness not as a limitation, but as part of what makes him extraordinary.

Trivia Time 🧠

Your brain deserves more than scrolling and skimming. Each week we’ll hit you with one question designed to make you pause, scratch your head, and maybe argue with whoever’s sitting next to you. Think of it as a quick mental pit stop: a chance to flex your random knowledge, test your memory, or finally use that obscure fact you learned in 7th grade.
