18 Bay Returns šŸ

Chefs Adam Kopels and Elizabeth Ronzetti, the culinary dream team and James Beard finalists, reopened their beloved restaurant this past weekend, now calling Jamesport’s historic Dimon Estate home sweet home.

This isn’t just a reopening, it’s a rebirth. With a bigger kitchen and room for 80 guests, they’re serving up their famous four-course tasting menu and adding an Ć  la carte option for the first time ever.

Expect dishes that celebrate the season, like fried blowfish with chili-mint sauce, fluke crudo with Wickham’s apples, and spinach fettuccine with guanciale and butter-warmed oysters.

Southold’s 2026 Budget šŸ’°

Good news, taxpayers, Southold’s proposed 2026 budget is keeping things a lot calmer than last year. The town’s new $64.14 million spending plan comes with a 2.94% property tax increase, a far cry from 2025’s 7.48% spike.

Supervisor Al Krupski says the focus is on maintaining Southold’s quality of life, keeping the roads smooth, the water clean, and the town running strong.

Public hearings are set for Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 4 PM. and 7 PM at Town Hall, with a final vote due by Nov. 20. ($)

Debate Season Wraps Up šŸ—£ļø

Southold’s final Town Board debate wrapped Thursday night, and while most voters have already picked their favorites, the candidates still managed to trade a few jabs and ideas worth noting.

Topics ranged from housing and zoning to water protection and farmland preservation, with some lively back and forth on how to keep Southold affordable and sustainable.

There were calls for creative housing solutions, talk of better communication with Fishers Island, and plenty of opinions on how the town should manage its water and open land in the years ahead.

Early voting: Oct. 25–Nov. 2
Election Day: Nov. 4

En Plein Air šŸŽØ

If you’ve flipped open this month’s Dan’s Papers North Fork, you’ve already seen Patricia Feiler’s latest masterpiece: Autumn Afternoon at Sparkling Pointe.

Feiler, a Mattituck painter with a serious knack for capturing vineyard light, was driving by Sparkling Pointe one crisp afternoon when the sun hit the vines just right. She grabbed her easel, came back the next day, and turned that moment into art.

Her style? Quick, colorful, and fearless. She paints en plein air (that’s artist-speak for ā€œoutsideā€), often improvising with whatever’s around — a beach chair, a pickup truck, even a barbecue grill.

When she’s not painting, Feiler’s organizing Art in the Garden, a Mattituck fundraiser that brings local artists together to support causes like CAST, John’s Place, and the Butterfly Effect Project.

You can catch her work now in ā€œRenderings and Reflectionsā€ at the Reboli Center in Stony Brook (through Nov. 2), or at her next curated show at Borghese Vineyard starting Nov. 6.
