The Lowdown
Staycation 🏖
For a lot of Long Islanders, summer means finally getting to enjoy the place everyone else vacations to. But somewhere between the laundry, hosting duties, meal prep and trying to coordinate kids all summer long, “relaxing at home” can start to feel like a second job.
That’s exactly what led Jasmine Nugent to launch The Staycay with her sister-in-law Brittany Nugent.
The Staycay connects clients across the North Shore, North Fork and South Fork with vetted local professionals offering everything from housekeeping and chef-prepared meals to lifeguards, fitness instructors, hairstylists, organizers and even in home boutique shopping experiences.
One of the more ambitious offerings is Summer Club, essentially a luxury backyard summer camp setup where counselors entertain the kids, lifeguards supervise the pool and parents get a rare opportunity to sit down uninterrupted.
They also offer Staycay Soirée services for parties and events, plus giftable packages like their “Fourth Trimester” support program for new moms that includes meals, massages, doula support and housekeeping.

The Chequit Is Back 🍽
For months, rumors swirled around what would happen to The Chequit after it closed last fall. Now, Shelter Island’s iconic hilltop hotel is officially back open, with a refreshed look, a new restaurant and a few additions.
The 154 year old hotel, reopened last week under the Soloviev Group with renovated guest rooms, brighter dining spaces and an updated food and drink program.
The new menu leans Italian with a North Fork seafood angle, featuring everything from a Big Italian Burger and Wagyu steak to pasta dishes, fresh seafood and aperol spritzes.
The restaurant itself got a major mood shift too.
Gone is the darker pub-style atmosphere. In its place: white walls, white tablecloths and a lighter, more coastal feel throughout the dining room. Even the old pool table area has been converted into additional seating. ($)

Local Spotlight
Dinosaur State Park 🦕
This summer, the Cutchogue New Suffolk Free Library and Floyd Memorial Library are teaming up for a day trip to Dinosaur State Park on Thursday, July 16, a spot that somehow manages to make science, nature, and giant prehistoric creatures all feel equally fun.
The park is home to one of the largest dinosaur track sites in North America, with more than 750 early Jurassic footprints preserved beneath the surface. Along with the fossil trackway, visitors can explore interactive exhibits, nature trails, and the arboretum before settling into the outdoor pavilion for lunch. It’s an outing that works just as well for curious kids as it does for adults who think dinosaurs are cool. (Which, honestly, is most of us.)
For families looking for a summer adventure that’s a little different from the usual beach day routine, this one feels pretty hard to beat.
