Where North Fork Parties Begin đ
đ Party Animal North Fork has everything you need to celebrate in style. From tableware and banners to balloons and party kits, the shop is filled with thoughtfully chosen items, including biodegradable balloons and products from women-owned and veteran-owned brands.
Owned by local moms and interior designers Kathy Cilio and Amanda Giuliano, the store is as beautiful as the events it helps bring to life. They also create custom balloon installations and themed decor kits for any occasion.
Open seven days a week because there's always something to celebrate. Find them in Feather Hill behind Taps and Corks and across from Eastern Sun.

Art, Theater, Film - Oh My! đ
Got a kid whoâs always putting on a show in the living room? Drawing comics at the kitchen table? Directing their friends in homemade movies?
The North Fork Arts Center in Greenport has the summer lineup for them.
NFACâs stacked summer workshop schedule includes writing, improv, puppet camp, acting auditions, musical theater, filmmaking, and comic book illustration. Sessions run through July and August, with age groups from 7 to 16+. Oh, and scholarships are available for local students.
This isnât your average finger-paint-and-go-home kind of camp. These are creative bootcamps taught by professionals.

Art Meets Ales đ¨
Greenport Harbor Brewing Co. is hosting a brand-new art exhibition called "Postcards from the Rock" and it opens Today, from 7â9 PM at their Carpenter Street tasting room in Greenport.
The show features Gavin Zeigler, a Shelter Island artist known for turning forgotten objects, like old stock certificates, keys, and pennies, into abstract mixed media masterpieces. His layered collages blend history, texture, and paint, inviting you to look closer and uncover whatâs hidden beneath the surface.

Southold PD Goes Undercover đ¨
Last week, Southold Police ran a covert operation targeting 13 local spots that sell alcohol. The mission? Catch businesses selling booze to minors.
Hereâs how it went down:
An underage civilian employee (think: summer job with a badge) was sent into stores to try and buy alcohol. Officers watched closely to see if clerks would card them or not.
Results:
11 stores passed the test, refusing to sell without ID.
2 stores failed: 7-Eleven locations in Greenport and Mattituck, where clerks sold alcohol without checking ID.
Studies show that frequent, publicized compliance checks can significantly reduce alcohol sales to minors, by as much as 42% according to a 2023 National Highway Traffic Safety Administration review.

Local Teen Wins Big đ
Greenportâs own Faith Welch just snagged one of the nationâs most prestigious youth honors, the 2025 Princeton Prize in Race Relations. Thatâs right. Out of the entire NYC metro region, she was chosen. Only 25 students in the whole country get it.
Why? Because Faith doesnât just talk the talk. Sheâs been unearthing North Forkâs hidden history of slavery, advocating for the Black community, and creating space where there wasnât any.
She founded the African American studies club at her high school (because no one else had), leads the local Juneteenth celebration, and serves as a youth ambassador for Coming to the Table, a racial healing organization. Oh, and sheâs also a junior scholar at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem. ($)

Foodie Friday đ˝
The other weekend, we set out on a casual dinner adventure, and ended up discovering a food truck experience that was anything but ordinary. Perfect for anyone who loves great food without the fuss, this spot combines laid-back vibes with standout flavors. Hereâs the lowdown on our visit and why you might want to put it on your radar.
Maizeat
We finally made it to Maizeat at The Shoals, and honestly, it felt like stumbling into a hidden summer gem.
The setup is perfect: picnic tables tucked beside the dock, bay breeze in the air. We snagged a picnic table by the dock just as the sky started doing that watercolor magic.
First up: yuca fries with mojo sauce and cotija cheese. Golden, crispy, and basically gone in 60 seconds. Followed that with sweet plantains drizzled in crema, salsa verde, and (you guessed it) more cotija. 10/10 recommend both.
The real MVPs: The short rib arepa and the pork belly arepa. Juicy, messy, flavor-packed goodness. We considered going back for round two but decided to maintain a little dignity.
Itâs the kind of place that makes you feel like youâre on vacation even if youâre five minutes from home. No reservations, no stress, just genuinely good food, dockside breezes, and the kind of evening that makes you think, we should do this more often.

Nothing in this section is sponsored. Theyâre just fun things you need to know. Iâll always let you know when something is sponsored
