Eagle Scout Project Aims to Make a Difference 🏕️
Big shoutout to Southold High School senior and Life Scout Luca Sirico, who’s taking community service to the next level. For his Eagle Scout project, Luca is teaming up with Ryan’s Team and the Southold Town Police Benevolent Association to install suicide prevention signs all over Southold Town.
The dark blue signs, marked with “Hope has a new number,” will feature the 988 suicide and crisis hotline number, plus logos for the Boy Scouts, Ryan’s Team, and the PBA. You’ll start spotting them soon from Mattituck to Orient Point, thanks to help from the Department of Public Works, the Highway Department, and a whole crew of volunteers (including Luca’s wrestling teammates, fellow Scouts, and some awesome community members).
Local businesses are pitching in too, donating concrete, signposts, and other supplies. The goal? Raise mental health awareness and make sure help is always just a call away. ($)
New Chapter at Southold Elementary 📚
Southold Elementary is getting a new captain at the helm. Diana Tonne has been named the next principal, stepping in for longtime leader Ellen O’Neill. (Cue the standing ovation for Ellen 👏)
The Southold crew is excited to see the fresh ideas and energy Diana will bring, with the same heart for student success. Big things ahead!
