🐝 Southold Wants Better Cell Service

Better Cell Service, Rocks + Minerals, Weekend Preview

Together With

Good Morning, North Fork! Usually, we like to kick things off with a laugh, but today we’ll start with a nod. Twenty-four years ago, the world changed, and so did so many families. We’ll never forget the courage, heartbreak, and unity that followed. September 11 is a day for remembering, reflecting, and maybe making an extra call to someone you love.

In today’s North Fork Buzz:

  • Better Cell Service

Ready, Set, Go!

Where North Fork Parties Begin 🎉

🎉 Party Animal North Fork has everything you need to celebrate in style. From tableware and banners to balloons and party kits, the shop is filled with thoughtfully chosen items, including biodegradable balloons and products from women-owned and veteran-owned brands.

Owned by local moms and interior designers Kathy Cilio and Amanda Giuliano, the store is as beautiful as the events it helps bring to life. They also create custom balloon installations and themed decor kits for any occasion.

Open seven days a week because there's always something to celebrate. Find them in Feather Hill behind Taps and Corks and across from Eastern Sun.

Southold Wants Bars 📶

Southolders have spoken more than 770 of them and the verdict is in: better cell coverage beats pretty cell towers. 93 people flat-out said they don’t care what they look like as long as they can make a call. Most respondents (524) even said they’d take a 199-foot tower over a 144-footer if it means stronger service.

Consultant Susan Rabold told the Town Board it’s time to update the wireless code, right now towers are capped at 45–80 feet and require a long Planning Board process. She’s recommending taller towers and a faster approval path.

Rock Stars 🪨

The Long Island Mineral & Geology Society (LIMAGS), based at the George Young Community Center in Jamesport, is where local rock hounds, artists, science teachers, and crystal enthusiasts gather every month to geek out over minerals, fossils, and all things geology.

Meetings feature talks on everything from Indigenous history to geology in film. They also take epic field trips: beach walks, fossil digs, and even mining for Herkimer diamonds at their own upstate claim.

Their biggest moment of the year? Their annual gem and mineral show, complete with vendors from across the country and hands-on science fun for kids. ($)
