Summer Tastes Better at Little Fish 🌅

There are certain foods that just taste better by the water.

Maybe it's the salt air. Maybe it's the extra hour of daylight. Or maybe it's the fact that once summer starts creeping in, nobody wants to be anywhere else.

At Little Fish, beachside season is fully on.

The outdoor tables are back in rhythm, live music drifts through the evening air, and the menu is made for long evenings by the Beach.

Start with local oysters topped with charred pineapple relish. Add an order of day boat catch ceviche with homemade tortilla chips. Then try not to fight over the last spicy tuna tartare taquito.

Add a cold drink, a few friends, and a sunset over the water, and you've got yourself a picture perfect day.

• Friday & Saturday Dinner Extended Until 10 PM

Peter’s Packages ❤️

One year after losing her father, Elizabeth Sultan is helping other young people navigate grief through a project inspired by her own experience.

This week at Peconic Bay Medical Center, Elizabeth donated 15 care packages through her nonprofit, Peter’s Packages, which she launched in honor of her father, Dr. Peter Sultan, the longtime orthopedic surgeon who passed away suddenly last July.

Each canvas bag is packed with comfort items like journals, board games, candles, art supplies, and a personal letter from Elizabeth reminding recipients that they’re not alone. She even includes her phone number, and many families have reached out to share their own stories. ($)

Youth on Stage 🎭

The North Fork Community Theatre’s annual Youth on Stage program is back, and this year’s cast is bringing Bright Star to the Mattituck stage.

Written by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, the musical follows literary editor Alice Murphy and aspiring writer Billy Cane as their lives unexpectedly intersect in post World War II North Carolina. Set against a bluegrass and Americana soundtrack, the story slowly unravels a decades old mystery connecting their pasts.

Youth on Stage has been a North Fork summer tradition since 1971, and alumni involved in this year’s production say the program continues to create lasting friendships, confidence and a strong sense of community.

Bright Star runs through Aug. 2 at the North Fork Community Theatre in Mattituck, with evening performances Thursday through Saturday and Sunday matinees.

A North Fork Wine Story 🍷

Southold Farm & Cellar has reinvented itself more than once, and now, the winery once rooted on the North Fork is starting a new chapter in France.

Owners Regan and Carey Meador first built a loyal following in Southold by growing unconventional grape varieties and making fresh, boundary pushing wines. But after local zoning officials denied plans for a winery, the family packed up and moved to Texas.

Texas brought early success, but drought, Pierce's disease, and the realities of running both a winery and restaurant eventually made the business unsustainable. Rather than bring in outside investors, the Meadors sold nearly everything and relocated to Bordeaux in 2023.

Today, they're farming about 15 acres in the Francs-Côtes de Bordeaux region, blending respect for Bordeaux's traditions with their signature experimental streak. There are still a few unconventional choices in the vineyard, but this time with a little more restraint, and no restaurant attached. ($)
