Trimble’s Closing 🌿
Trimble’s of Corchaug Nursery is getting ready to close after more than 35 years on Cutchogue’s Main Road.
Owner Nancy Leskody built the four acre nursery alongside her wife, Anne Trimble, turning a worn down greenhouse into a go to for flowers, herbs, and a steady stream of regulars who’ve been coming back for decades.
The two took the leap in the early ’90s, pouring what savings they had into the property and figuring it out as they went, with help from friends, family, and neighbors who showed up early and often.
After Trimble’s passing in 2022, Leskody has been running it solo. That shift, from shared decisions to carrying it all alone, is what ultimately made this moment inevitable.
The nursery will open for a final sale starting May 1, with everything on the property up for grabs.($)

Subdivision Debate Heats Up 🏠
If it feels like subdivisions are suddenly everywhere in Southold conversation, they are. But town officials say this isn’t new, it’s just the latest chapter in a decades long balancing act between development and preservation.
At a packed forum in Mattituck last week, residents showed up with questions, especially around two major proposed conservation subdivisions in Cutchogue that would add dozens of homes while preserving large chunks of farmland.
The town’s pitch: this is exactly how the system is supposed to work. Cluster the houses, protect the land. It’s a model Southold has been refining since the ’80s, with more than 10,000 acres already preserved through various programs.
But the tension is real. Many residents are asking why these large scale projects don’t include affordable housing, especially as home prices climb and younger, local families struggle to stay. The town says that’s something under review, but any changes wouldn’t apply to projects already in motion.

Wine Speakeasy 🍷
Tucked behind a plain brown door in a Cutchogue strip mall, there’s a winery that feels more like a secret than a stop on the North Fork wine trail. And that’s exactly how owner Edmund Power wants it.
North Cliff Vineyards opens its “speakeasy” just one day a week, Sundays from noon to 5, inviting a small group inside a dimly lit warehouse space where Power himself pours, talks, and breaks down every bottle.
This isn’t your typical tasting room. No crowds, no bus tours, no rush. Just a handful of guests, a candle on the table, and the guy who grew the grapes walking you through it all.
Power focuses strictly on red Bordeaux varietals, grown on his Mattituck farm and made using old world methods, hand harvested, naturally fermented, no chemicals, no shortcuts. It’s small batch in the truest sense, down to him and one employee doing most of the work.

Peace Pole 🕊️
Greenport School is adding something new to campus, and it’s not for sports or classes. It’s a Peace Pole.
The installation will be marked with a dedication ceremony on April 29, with the pole set between the tennis courts and the school garden. It’s meant to be a quiet, permanent reminder of unity and global peace.
Students are at the center of it. The Interact Club is leading the effort, with the club president speaking at the ceremony about what the pole represents, not just symbolically, but in everyday actions around the school.
Younger students are getting involved, too. Elementary kids have created hand decorated “peace rocks,” which they’ll place around the base of the pole.
Greenport will be the first school on the North Fork to install a Peace Pole, giving the project a little extra weight beyond campus.
