SBELIHās New CNO š„
Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital has a new chief nursing officer, and sheās not planning to stay behind a desk.
Annalisa Monahan, a doctor of nursing practice with more than 30 years of experience, stepped into the role of chief nursing officer and senior vice president of patient care services on Feb. 9.
Her approach? Visible. Present. Sleeves rolled up.
Before landing in Greenport, Monahan served as director of patient care services for medicine and surgery at Mount Sinai West in Manhattan. Her background includes stroke care, addiction medicine and psychiatry, areas that align closely with SBELIHās existing programs.
Her early priorities: advancing nursing education, improving clinical metrics and continuing the hospitalās push for Magnet designation, a national recognition for nursing excellence. Sheās also focused on expanding shared governance, giving nurses a stronger voice in care decisions and workflow. ($)

History Revisited šŗšø
Peconic Landing is going full 1776. The Greenport retirement community has launched a historic lecture series as part of Suffolk 250, the countywide initiative marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The series, held on the third Tuesday of each month throughout 2026, digs into Suffolk Countyās role in the American Revolution and beyond.
The goal: tie Americaās 250th anniversary themes to Long Islandās own layered history from Revolutionary War general William Floyd to Indigenous nationsā experiences during the Revolution, to the founding of the Long Island Railroad and Greenportās role in it.
Future talks will also explore 19th-century utopian communities and even ritual magick practiced in colonial Southold.

Animal of The Week
Meet Chloe š¾
Meet Chloe, the kind of dog who doesnāt make a grand entrance, she just quietly wins you over five minutes later and suddenly you canāt imagine the room without her. Tall, lean, and rocking that perfectly scruffy wire haired black coat, she has an effortless, dignified charm. The kind of presence that feels calm but never boring.
Sheās a young adult terrier mix who settles in like sheās done this before. New home? New people? No dramatic adjustment period required. Chloe is affectionate without being clingy, she wants to be near you, but sheās not underfoot. Indoors sheās relaxed and comfortable, content to soak it all in. Outdoors sheās curious but never reactive, quietly observing the world without making a fuss about it. She doesnāt bark unnecessarily, sleeps soundly through the night, rides beautifully in the car, and handles stairs like a pro. She signals politely when itās time for a bathroom break, gets very enthusiastic about mealtime, and walks best with a harness.
Sheās the kind of girl who slips seamlessly into your routine and makes it better. And fair warning: once she looks at you with those soft, knowing eyes, youāll start picturing her riding shotgun on your next errand run.

If you were looking for one productive way to channel all your snowstorm frustration, the Southold Fire Department has an idea, and it comes with prizes.
Thanks to the mountain of snow weāve all been side eyeing lately, Southold FD is launching a Hydrant Clearing Contest to help keep hydrants visible and accessible
How to Enter
āļø Clear 3 feet around a fire hydrant
šø Take a photo with you and your handiwork
š± Post to Facebook or Instagram and tag Southold FD
š« No drive-bys, youāve gotta be in the photo
Two winners will each score a gift card from one of the departmentās local sponsors, plus the quiet satisfaction of knowing you did something legitimately helpful.
So if youāre already out there moving snow, you might as well adopt a hydrant while youāre at it. Your back may not thank you, but the firefighters definitely will.
Nothing in this section is sponsored. Theyāre just fun things you need to know. Weāll always let you know when something is sponsored
