The Lowdown
Massive Hedge Maze 🌲
This fall, Shamrock Christmas Tree Farm in Mattituck is adding a new attraction to its lineup: what’s believed to be the largest evergreen hedge maze in the continental United States.
The 2.3 acre maze is made entirely of arborvitae hedges and has been in the works for years.
Unlike many mazes, this one was designed with accessibility in mind. The pathways are wide enough for golf carts and wheelchairs, and the center features a gathering space with a large brick fireplace that can host special events.
The maze officially opens September 26 alongside Shamrock’s pumpkin patch, mini train rides, and fall festivities.
At 2.3 acres, the maze is believed to be second in size nationally only to Hawaii’s famous Dole Plantation maze, giving Mattituck a pretty unique claim to fame.

Water Alert 💧
The Suffolk County Water Authority has issued a Stage 1 water alert for Southold, Shelter Island, Southampton, and East Hampton as the region deals with moderate drought conditions.
Under the alert, residents are being asked to avoid watering lawns unless necessary. Those who do water must follow an odd/even schedule: odd numbered addresses on odd numbered days, even numbered addresses on even numbered days.
The move comes after SCWA set a June pumpage record, pulling more than 11 billion gallons of water from the system while nearly reaching an all time peak demand rate. ($)

Self Guided Tour 🥂
Sparkling Pointe is giving visitors a closer look at the vineyard with a new self guided walking tour that turns a wine tasting into a behind the scenes experience.
The free tour will take guests through the Southold property with six to seven marked stops highlighting the grape varieties grown on site, sustainable farming practices, and the journey from vineyard to bottle. Visitors will access the experience through a QR code and follow along with videos narrated by winemaker Andrew Rockwell.
Inspired in part by self guided experiences at West Coast wineries, the new format lets visitors explore at their own pace while learning more about what’s in their glass.

Animal of The Week
Meet Mr. Hot Dog, a happy go lucky pup who approaches life with enthusiasm, curiosity, and the firm belief that every person he meets is a potential new best friend.
This charming guy is the perfect mix of playful and easygoing. He loves exploring his surroundings, keeping an eye on neighborhood happenings, and making himself part of whatever is going on. Mister Hot Dog has a way of making every day a little brighter. He's housebroken, sleeps soundly through the night, and adapts quickly to new routines and environments.
Mister Hot Dog is also the kind of dog who takes life in stride. While fireworks might earn a few barks of protest, everyday noises and even thunderstorms don't seem to faze him. He's smart, eager to learn, and quickly picks up on what's expected of him. Most importantly, he genuinely enjoys being around people and thrives on companionship.
If you're looking for a dog with a joyful spirit, a loving personality, and an uncanny ability to fit right into family life, Mister Hot Dog may be your guy.

Think of it as a quick mental pit stop: a chance to flex your random knowledge, test your memory, or finally use that obscure fact you learned in 7th grade.
