The Lowdown

The Boathouse Opens 🎉

Summer might be over, but Silver Sands isn’t slowing down. There’s a brand-new reason to cruise down sleepy Silvermere Road: The Boathouse is officially open for the chillier months.

Chef Finn O’Hara is dishing out local hits: raw + dressed oysters, Bloody Mary clams with horseradish, truffle mussel chowder, crispy smoked oyster fritters, and a smoked bluefish roll you’ll probably dream about later.

Inside, it’s giving cozy coastal clubhouse: shiplap walls, old buoys, sea-worn art, long wooden tables built for making new friends, and an 11-seat bar.

Bonus: There are board games + plans for weekly movie nights on a sailcloth screen.

Hours
-Thurs, Fri, Mon: 4–11 PM (food ‘til 10)
-Sat & Sun: Noon–Midnight (food ‘til 11)

Aldo’s Coffee Takes the Ryder Cup ☕️

Bethpage Black may have the golfers, but the real MVP? Aldo’s Coffee.

Owner Josh Sommer and head roaster Rae McMahon set up a full espresso bar inside the media hospitality lounge, serving everything from cappuccinos to cortados alongside Aldo’s famous house-made biscotti.

Josh almost deleted the PGA invite thinking it was a prank. Then came the scramble: espresso equipment shipped from Texas, a mad dash from Farmingdale back to Greenport to grab it, and a late-night setup.

The result? Rave reviews, especially from European media calling it “the only good coffee in America.”

Southold Museum’s Fall Doubleheader 🍂

Fall weekends on the North Fork = jam-packed calendars, and Southold Historical Museum is not missing its moment.

First up: the Autumn Antique, Fine Art & Crafts Fair, happening this weekend (Sept. 27–28) at the Maple Lane Campus. Picture this: antiques, fine art, handmade pottery, photography, unique crafts, vintage finds, and live music drifting across the historic grounds. $5 suggested donation gets you in (plus a raffle ticket).

Then, dust off the clubs for the Museum’s annual “History in the Making” Golf Tournament on Monday, Oct. 6 at North Fork Country Club. Tee off for a day of greens, contests, prizes, dinner, drinks, and bragging rights. Not a golfer? Grab a dinner-only ticket and join the party anyway.

Foodie Friday 🍽

Clear the griddles and hide the waffle irons, National Pancake Day is here, and we are fully leaning in. This is the one holiday where carbs don’t count and and breakfast for dinner is totally on the table.

There’s just something about pancakes, right? That golden-brown flip, the butter sliding down the stack, the maple syrup pooling just enough to turn every bite into a little “weekend moment feeling” even if it’s a weekday. Pancakes are cozy, a little indulgent, and exactly what we all need as the mornings get chillier.

So in true Foodie Friday fashion, we’re dedicating today to the fluffiest food of them all. Whether you like them stacked high with whipped cream, with fruit, or served plain with just a pat of butter (classic move, respect)

Luckily the North Fork has no shortage of places serving up stacks worth celebrating. Scroll on for a handful of our favorite places to honor the best circle-shaped food since the bagel.

Stacks on Stacks 🥞

🥞 Country Corner Café (Southold) – cozy diner classics done right

🥞 Love Lane Kitchen (Mattituck) – fluffy perfection (plus seasonal specials that never disappoint)

🥞 Wayside Market (Southold) – legendary deli, equally legendary flapjacks

🥞 Cutchogue Diner (Cutchogue) – a retro short stack that never goes out of style

🥞 Main Road Biscuit Co. (Jamesport) – biscuits may be in the name, but don’t sleep on the pancakes

🥞 Bruce & Son (Greenport) – creative, chef-driven twists that make pancakes feel elevated

Where’s your go-to spot for a pancake fix on the North Fork? 🍴🍁
